There should be a res on the pump or on the fender just follow the hose to it the check and make sure its full but it sounds like it could be a belt

Why is my power steering reservoir loosing fluid, what would cause the fluid to be "foamy" on top, and what should I use to fill it with?

spray down pump and hoses with degreaser and wash off. After its dry, use recomended fluid to fill. Start engine and turn steering wheel all the way left, and all the way right a couple of times. This will blead the air from the system. Now shut off and check fluid. Make sure it is full. Now drive the car down the road and make turns, and drive it back and check fluid level. If its still foamy and not leaking fluid, your pump ma be bad.

Why my steering wheel makes a noise when I turn it side to side?

Assume the noise is coming from under the hood. If the noise only occurs at the far extreme turning point in both directions, this is normal as it is straining the power steering system. If the noise occurs all the time, check the level of fluid in the power steering reservoir. If low, probably a leaking hose or reservoir. Add power steering fluid to get level between min and max lines. Should make sound go away. If the noise does not go away and a flush of the system does not correct it, you may need a new power steering system, although this is pretty rare unless a leak has gone on for a long time with little or no fluid.
If noise is inside the car, one of the parts of the steering column or steering wheel may be bad.

My 2001 bmw 325 cic started making an awful grinding noise today when moving the steering wheel at all to the left or right. Can also hear the noise under the hood.

It sounds like your car is low on power steering fluid. When the power steering fluid is low, the power steering pump is running dry, which makes a grinding or moaning sound. Check the power steering fluid level and top up if necessary. It should be on the left side of the engine compartment. Your owners manual should have the exact location of the power steering reservoir, and what type of power steering fluid to use.
Good luck

My steering is very hard i need 2 hands to steer my car into a space i have to turn steering wheel with lots of effort

Hello
There could be a simple reason for this, you may need power steering fluid.THis can be checked under the hood.
Look for the power steering fluid reservoir and make sure its full.

Another problem may be the belt that turns the pump or the power steering pump itself.Usually there would be some noise associated with this.If this is the case have the car looked at by a mechanic.

My 2002 bmw 525i makes noise when turning the steering wheel

Please describe the noise. Is the noise inside the car or beneath the car? Is it a squeak, a clink, or a grind?
If the car has over 100k miles on it, and it makes a hydraulic pump whine when you turn the wheel, look in the reservoir and see if the fluid is still bright red. If the fluid has turned brown, many (including me) have been able to quiet the whine by removing the reservoir and flushing the gunked up screen in the reservoir out with solvent, and then replacing the power steering fluid with fresh fluid.
If you do this yourself, be prepared to dedicate a whole Saturday to the job. If you have any drips from your power steering hoses (common) this will give you the excuse to get in there and replace the leaking hoses while you are at it.

Whining noise from steering when turning steering wheel left or right even when parked with engine running

Check the level in the power steering fluid reservoir. You most likely need a top up. The noise is caused by the pump effectively pumping air through the system. Top up to the level marked in the reservoir then turn on the engine and move the steering wheel around for a wile then turn off an re top up to the level marked in the reservoir and all should then be OK. Make sure you use the correct fluid for the car – usually a Red Dexron Hydraulic Fluid.

Steering wheel make a noise when turn left

its due to low/no fluid level in the power steering reservoir.Check the fluid in the power steering. If it is low the car will make noise when you turn the wheel. the internal parts gets rubbed hard and noise occurs. refill the fluid and let it reset for some time then try it will get the fluency to move smooth and noise will get stopped. -------- This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution if helped.thank you for using fixya.

If its a whining noise, check the power steering fluid level and fill if low, otherwise you may have a pump going out or a loose belt

Steering makes a whining noise - where is the fluid reservoir?

the suspect part for a power steering whine is the power steering pump, flush (very important) the system and replace the PS pump..
