I am trying to work through basically the same issues on my '96 A6 2.8L. The doors will not lock and the sunroof is inop. Additionally, the ignition switch no longer functions properly. The key must be manually returned from "3 o'clock" (while the starter is turning motor over) to "2:30" (once it starts) or the car will die. I will address the ignition switch this week. The prior owner told me "it all happened at once." I still can't put together a solution for the central locking issue. I can't see how replacing the ignition switch will resolve it.

I have many issues - one being this one as well. The key only unlocksthe driver door.

What happened was I bought 96 a4 quattro. The original owner (2 owners ago) had lost the key fob for the car and never got a new one. Then, the key hole has broke, luckily with the alarm off. Therefore, the alarm is disarmed and the car is unlocked all the time now.

Just recently, one of the neighbours friend's had a an audi as well, and somehow was on the same frequency and activated the alarm, so now the alarm will not turn off, and since the immoboliser is activated the car is undrivable. You cannot start the car with the key.

I purchased the car without driving it because he gave me a wicked deal (but i still feel like i've been somehow scammed).

So i've been told that the only way to de-activate the alarm is from the remote. In order to get the remote up and running, i would need to reprogram it.

I brought the car to the dealership and they had to fix the lock cylinder first. They then hooked up the OBD2 reader (or whichever one) and said that it can't see the alarm, and that the central locking pump wasn't reading either. So in order to reprogram the fob, apparantly everything that is connected to the alarm system needs to be working because it's supposedley one full circuit.

My question is: Is this actually true? Does the central locking pump need to be working in order for the computer to read the alarm?

I'm so confused and don't want to be hussled more than I've already been....

As far as the central locking issue, it sounds like you need to replace your central locking pump. You can buy them online.
I have a 95 A6 and I am in the process of looking for a new central locking pump.
The part number may be 4A0 862 257 J, that is what it is for me.
There are directions online as to how to change this yourself once you get the part. If you buy from the dealership the part is $500.
Be thankful your child locks weren't engaged. We haven't been able to open our back doors since the pump went out.

1999 Audi A3 1.8T Electric Windows and Central Locking Won't work

will your passenger door open with the key and is it just one side that your windows are not working or both. if its just one side it might be your regulator motor in the door thats not working if its both it might be your central locking pump usually in the boot. however if both of them are working fine it could be that your key needs reprogrammed however i think the 1st 2 are more likely to be the problem.

Passenger door not opening with central locking

1st wind the glass down and turn the key in the driver door twice in clockwise direction to lock, at the sound of the second click try try opening the door thru the window (passenger) manually. you will need to pull the knob twice before it opens. you can get all the passenger doors open this way until you decide to change central lock system. To activate the remote; insert the key into driver door while pressing the lock or unlock button on the remote for at least five-ten seconds which should get it functioning normally again. hope this helps. it worked on mine.
