Back windshield wiper won't turn on


The rear wiper has a dedicated fuse. It's the 10A R/WIPER fuse in the relay block. This supplies power to the rear wiper and washer switch and the rear wiper control unit. That unit also gets power from the 20A AUDIO (!) fuse in the engine room fuse box. If the fuses are OK, the ignition switch is in the ON position, and the rear wiper and washer switch is turned on the rear wiper should work. If not check all the components described to find where the loss of power is occurring

The washer and wiper are two separate circuits. At the central junction box check 15A fuse 14 which feeds the battery saver relay. At the battery junction box, check fuse 12 which feeds the rear wiper down and up relays. Rear wiper action is controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM). If the rear wiper switch is set to one of the intermittent positions, the battery saver relay closes to apply power to the wiper down and up relays. The GEM selects high/low or park operation. Note that there is an internal thermal breaker in the rear wiper motor so if everything else checks out, the motor may have overheated and opened that fuse. also, the rear wiper relay(s) could be defective

Then to answer the question you asked:
There are actually 3 fuses involved in your rear wiper system.
They are all located in the driver's fuse/relay box located under the left side of the dash.
Fuse #7, 7.5 Amp
Fuse #21, 7.5 Amp
Fuse #30, 20 Amp
These same three fuses, if blown, will also have the symptom of the front wipers not working. So if the front wipers are working, the problem has nothing to do with a blown fuse.

There are also several control units involved in making the rear wipers work:
There is the Combination Switch Control unit, the MICU Rear Junction Box Control Unit, and the Relay Control Module. These are also powered (protected) by the fuses listed above.

I would recommend Obtaining a scanner and scanning the Controller Area Network (CAN) in your vehicle to see if there are any fault codes that can help you determine why your rear wipers are not working.

Air bag light is on 96 grand caravan


i may be mistaken on if this applies to your model year but if the rear wiper does not work then check the fuse for rear wiper and replace if blown. make sure rear wiper switch is off and wiper is parked.if air bag light goes out after a few seconds then the rear wiper motor is bad causing fuse to blow. air bag module gets power for its fuse through wiper fuse.if wiper is not parked then fuse may blow when you turn yhe key on.you have two choices. replace wiper motor or remove tailgate door panel and unplug the motor

Rear wiper does not work at all. front wipers work fine. rear washer works


1. check the fuse to the rear wiper motor
2. check for power to rear wiper motor at the motor (power wire going in to the wiper motor with rear wiper switch on)
If you have good fuses & have power going in to the rear wiper motor...
3. Pull old rear wiper motor and install a new rear wiper motor.

Principles of Operation
Operation of the windshield wiper and washer is controlled by the front wiper/washer amplifier assembly. The front wiper/washer amplifier input comes from the multifunction switch by means of a voltage divider circuit. A constant voltage is applied to the multifunction switch by the front wiper/washer amplifier. When the multifunction switch is moved into the LO, HI, or intermittent position, the voltage is directed through a series of resistors. This results in various voltages being returned to the module for each switch position. The module then grounds the appropriate circuit, based on the voltage signal received back from the multifunction switch. This causes the wipers to run intermittently, or at the appropriate speed. Voltage is supplied to the wiper motor by the CJB fuse F46 (20A).
When the multifunction switch wash button is depressed, it bypasses all of the resistors returning a full voltage signal to the module. The module then grounds the appropriate circuits to operate the windshield washer pump for as long as the switch is depressed. The windshield wiper speed is dependent on the position of the windshield wiper/washer switch.
Voltage for the windshield washer pump is also provided by CJB fuse F46 (20A).
Operation of the rear wiper and washer is controlled by the rear wiper/washer switch.
Voltage is supplied to the rear window wiper motor by the fuse junction panel fuse F44 (10A).
The rear window wiper motor ground is made or broken by the rear wiper/washer switch. When the rear wiper/washer switch is moved into the WIPER position, it grounds the rear window wiper motor circuit, causing the rear window wiper motor to run once every 10-15 seconds.
Voltage to the rear washer pump motor is also supplied by the CJB fuse F44 (10A). The rear washer pump is directly controlled by the rear wiper/washer switch which makes or breaks the ground for the washer pump motor, depending upon its position.
If the vehicle is equipped with a movable liftgate glass, a liftgate glass switch is utilized to prevent rear window wiper operation when the liftgate glass is open. This same switch also causes the rear window wiper to drop down approximately three inches when the liftgate glass latch is released.

Measure the resistance between rear wiper/washer switch C288 pin 6, component side and rear wiper/washer switch C288 pin 2, component side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the switch depressed, and greater than 10,000 ohms with it released?
