Our 2005 Ford Explorer Sports Trax's battery went dead after the lights being left on. We jumped the battery, but now the anti-theft light is on and will now allow us to start the truck. This happened to...

What you can do is cycle your keys. First you will need both keys for this procedure. Insert the first key and turn it to the run position, watch for the security light to turn off. As soon as the light turns off remove that key and within 5 seconds do the same thing with the second key. This will relearn your keys for the PATS security and you should be able to start your vehicle.

I left my lights on. I jump the battery but now it won't start because of some safty feature, I don't have my key fob to turn it off. How can I turn it off?

Sometimes, but not always, you can turn off the anti-theft system by locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key. Usually this happens after a battery has gone dead, such as yours did, and the anti-theft is triggered accidentally by the loss of battery power to it. I usually remove the key from the ignition, shut all the doors, lock the drivers door with the key, then unlock it with the key, and then attempt to start the engine. Often the anti-theft will allow the engine to crank but won't let it start. You could have some other problems but I'd start by trying this first.

1996 Nissan Maxima - unlock car, anti theft alarm went off and car won't start. Got new battery, battery was dead, put in new battery, anti theft alarm still going off and car won't start. Please help

If the antitheft system is armed and isn't recognizing the key for starting, the dealer should be the next place it should be towed for reprogramming the key to the computer.

My battery went dead, and now that i try to jump start the vehicle, the alarm goes off and will not turn off. I cannot start the car at all

If this is an after market alarm, an alarm that was installed by someone other than a dealer there will be an in-line fuse under hood on the main power wire leading to the alarm horn. Usually along the firewall. Remove this fuse and you should be able to start the vehicle. The problem you are experiencing is the anti theft or ignition kill switch being activated because the alarm is detecting the lose of power as a Surge and triggering the anti theft circuit.

Won't start

very well could be due to anti theft issue. i don't recall the keys getting locked in the ignition from this though. try turning the key to the on postion- not cranking and leave it there for 15 min, then turn back off. do this three times. you may get a blinking light on the dash- don't worry about it. on the fourth try and start it. what you are doing is telling the alarm- i have the proper keys so let me take my car!
