Question about 2002 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Trouble starting past few days, now it wont

Past few mornings my 02 neon has been trouble starting, it would crank over, car would shake and try to start but wouldnt, after a few attempts of cranking it it would finally start. However today it wouldnt start, it will shake and sound like its turning but will not start. A few times in the past few weeks while hitting 3rd gear while passing other cars my car would shake while passing and the check engine light would start blinking, but the lite has always been on, but it never blinked like it did on them occasions, but it always quits blinking after passing another slow vehicl and shifting back into 4th gear, i dont no if this has anything to do with it. I have also came to find out i have been using bad gas. I thought it was the fuel pump but isnt, i hear it turn on every time. It is turning everytime i attempt to start it, the engine shakes the car as it wants to start but wont, just shuts off. I kept trying to keep the key turned to start it a few times and sometimes where the digital milage is it would say fuse, since it isnt the fuel pump that is bad what could it be? I dont have any clue if it could be a sencor or what? If anyone knows what this might be please help. ive had this car since 13,000 miles pretty much new, took good care of it. Now it has 96000 miles on it.

well only reason i said that was i called advanced auto parts to get this fuel filter and they told me the 02 neons doesnt have a fuel filter, im confused and agree with you, ive never heard of a car with no fuel filters, im going to check on it again, hopefully they will tell me they have some. I put some lucas gas treatment in this vehicle earlier today, i called also about the censors, 02 censors, there was 2 of them, a up and a down, i have no clue wich one i would need, thank you for helping me out, ill keep you informed how this mess is turning out. Im trying to get my car hooked up to a computer to see if it will tell me exactly what censor i need, anyway of knowing wich 02 censor i need?

Sence you have had bad gas you will need to replace the inine fuel filter this should fix the starting problem but i would beleave you have a O2 sensor that needs to be replaced

Sounds like you may have a fuel leak, somewhere!
It could be out onto the (surroundings), or into the motor.
If the exhaust smells like fuel, I would almost bet it's leaking into the engine, and would have to guess that one or more of your fuel injectors are "seeping".

On subzero morning few days ago my 93 240 had trouble starting. tried about 7-8 times and finally it would not even attempt to turn over. The dash lights go dim as if its drawing power but nothing is...

take the battery to a garage an ask them to do a load test on your battery, you can have 12 volts but the battery cant deliver the amps you need.
