Windowes steaming up

Windowes steam up unless defrost is run all the time

I have the same problem with my 01 Intrepid but I believe its one of the heater recirculating doors not opening causing a build up of moisture inside. I have lots of heat - no damp spots on my floors - no rad smell but I do notice only hearing 1 heater motor close/open something when I shut my car off. I used to hear 2 motors run one after another when I shut off my car and I believe the recirculating motor that drives the vent to open and shut must either be done or a fuse is blown so that it doesn't work staying in the closed position. Haven't come up with a solution yet but am still working on it.

You either have alot of water somewhere in the car, rugs, seats or spare tire well. Is it snowing where you are? Or, your heater core is leaking. If it's the heater core you can smell it, if you never smelled coolant before open the radiator cap when the car is cold and take a whiff. If it's standing water, well, almost everyone knows what that smells like.
The heater core is more likely the problem. You must check the coolant level in the radiator. If the coolant levels in the radiator and resivour are low it has to be a leak in the heater core or hoses. On average heater core leaks can be small and take time to get really bad but you must monitor your radiator coolant levels or your car will over heat one day and you won't be prepaired. Also I don't know the health hazzards associated with breathing steamed antifreeze over time.

Over time you will notice that you need to clean off the areas that got steamed up and you will find the paper towel is really dirty looking (more than normal), that is another indication of a heater core leak somewhere.

I have steam coming from the vents when I turn the heater on in my 2004 Cherokee Jeep?

Most likely the "steam" is vapor from a coolant leak. Does the steam have a sweet smell? Does it leave an oily residue on the windshield when using the defroster? If so, you probably have a leak in the heater core.

Why must I run the defroster so much?

this could be two items that i can think of
1st could be a stopped up cabin air filter , a low air flow would be felt out the vents on blower high setting

2nd sometimes a small hole develops in your heater core allowing a tiny bit of your cars coolant to flow into heat chamber , this gets evaporated by air flow thru heat box and recondenses back inside car , telltale signs are stuffy smell inside car and slight drip of coolant on ground under car as problem persists

heater core replacment is needed to fix this problem

Car lets out steam and smells like coolant

Sounds like the heater core is leaking. At any rate you say it runs low on coolant. Hence a leak. 9 times out of ten, if you are smelling it, that is because the leak is from the heater core, which is located inside the passenger compartment.

Steam is coming out the tailpipe of my 2003 Dodge Stratus RT what does that mean?

Unless you're seeing or smelling antifreeze in the moisture, it's probably just a product of local humidity. Without any other indicators of trouble I wouldn't worry about it.

Why do I have radiator steam come thru my heating vents in my car?

Be careful with that Barsleak. Don't be surprised if you see seals and or your radiator blown out. Not only will it plug the leak but it can also plug things that you do not want plugged, such as hoses and seals

While driving my 95 explorer i noticed the heater wasnt getting hot its luke warm and when i turn on the defroster i start to smell anti freeze and all of the windows fog up

no heat is probably low coolant or bad thermostat, although you have fog and smell ! the heating and cooling systems are closed systems the only way the windows fog is the coolant is hot and steams inside the car due to some leak inside the heater core box. as well as the smell being present. Now it is possible that a little leak has occured where the coolant supply or return line connects to the heater core and is running into the car which is running onto the core and creating steam and smell. hopefully it is a easy clamp tighten fix for you.

My front defroster is not working at its best, however the back one is working properly. If I add any heat while trying to defrost my windows the problem get worst.

Sounds like the heater core is leaking coolant. If it is leaking it will blow steam out of defrost vents and fog the windshield. Symptoms: low coolant level in radiator, steam coming out vents when engine is warmed up, odor of anti-freeze coming out of vents, wet carpet in floorboard near heater blower motor.
If so, replace heater core.

My 2000 Mercury Sable is leaking anitfreeze and I am not sure where its leaking from. How can I find out?

open the hood, run the car with a piece of card over the rad (if poss)until its really hot then, with your sleeves rolled up and NO tie, look for a steam jet,if its hot enough, you wont miss it.unless it the heater matrix.but you would smell that inside the car with steamed up windows.(no ac)

2001 Jimmy, ran a little hot and steam was coming out of the window defrost vents, changed the thermostat now steam is really comming out of the window defrost vents. What do we need to do?

You heater core is leaking causing steam to come out of the interior vents. This is quite a process to replace a heater core in one of these cars. The entire dash needs to be removed. The core itself is located under the middle of the dash towards the top. If you do this job yourself, take your time and allow a full weekend to do if you've never done one before.
