Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

1 Answer

Surging I had the carb profesionaly rebuilt with all seals done. The trany has had a service done and has been fine. Could this be a fuel pump problem? I don't know much about Honda it's my wifes car. It runs perfect for 5 or 6 miles when the surging happens. It does go away when you take your foot of the gas and goes back to normal running.

Yes its posible that the pump is geting week or your fuel could have water in it to i would start and put some fuel antifreez in it then have your fuel presser checked

sound like an air leak, too much air coming in kills engine, try spraying like starting fluid by and seals, or do a compressed smoke test

You need to hone the accelerator pump well and adjust the throw of the pump rod as much as possible to get more fuel. Of course that is just a guess based on 100's of rebuilds i have done over the years. I have also found that Japanese carbs seldom turn out when rebuilt.

Did you drain the old fuel out of the tanks? Old fuel will not fire most times it goes bad and mosture accumulates. Next question for you are you getting and spark?

22r carb dumping fuel at 2500 rpm will not pass smog. Was rebuilt and is in smog specs. at idle.

Fill the tank up but do not top off.

Ran the trunk for 15-20 minutes on the highway and recheck the fuel surge condition at 2500 rpm.

If it stop surging then you has a weak fuel pump.

Change the fuel filter will also help.

Also check the fast idle setting.
