Question about 1995 Pontiac Sunfire

1995 sunfire has not been running the best so i change the plugs and when i had all four plugs out they were all like a chaulk white color and my anti freeze light comes on sometimes???? would do u recomend would be the problem?????

    i do have a chip add to my engine which could make it run leaner i think . it do run a bit better whit new plugs but there was some black on top of the plugs to so tomorrow i am buying new plug wires. and the temp of the engine is fine it dont even go to the half make and the heat is good but i think the heather chip is bad cause i only got full blast on the heat.

    how much horse power can be put in a sunfire and is there alot of small tune ups to put the horsepower up a bit more then what i already got done to it... i have a cold air intake, headers and exhust fars the catalack converter, and a cheap $40 chip that hooks into the wire for the the air sensor...i think thats what it is hook into..

The chaulk white color could be normal to lean running, or could be burning coolant. how does it run with new plugs in it now? if running ok, ck and top off coolant tank and monitor the level for a few hundrred miles and see what happens. how is the engine temp. and how is the heat? if it were burning coolant i would think you would see a problem with fluctuating temps and low heat output.

    yes only having high on heater fan is usually a blower resistor

Did you change the belt and tensioner ? The se can also cause your problem. Also checking the wires and plugs. Look for white to green colors in the plugs, this is corrosion. Clean as best you can or replace the plugs. Wires have to be checked with a volt/ohm meter. anything above 5 ohms of resistance has to be fixed.

Hello all,

For those of you that have or occasionally borrow trailers and look at the wiring plugs with disdain (I mean face it they don't make sense, ground is white, +12vdc is black, etc), this is for you.

This will show you how to wire trailers with seven, six and four pin connectors

Plug Types/Application
7 Way - RV Trailers, Horse and Utility Trailers
6 Way - Horse, Stock and Utility
4 Way - Utility Trailers

Columns are: Color, Function, Mark on the plug.

Seven wire Trailer plugs (Large trailers with a battery and electric brakes):

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

02 Sunfire running rough
A bad head gasket will not cause blow buy. A worn out engine will cause blow buy. The head gaskets typically leak coolant externally on the drivers Fromm corner of the engine. I would be interested to see what the coolant temp sensor is reading. If it runs better in cold weather maybe it is running to rich. I would also like to know what specifically the codes are. They should be a letter P followed by four numbers, P0300 for example. I would also like to see what the upstream O2 sensor is reading as well as the long and short term fuel trims. This may also give some valuable insight into the problem. Another thing I would check is compression. It's possible that the engine is worn out and no matter what you do you will never solve the proble unless the engine is replaced. Check the above out and let me know what you find. Very rough idle, running rich, new plugs are black in color,firing on all four plugs.replaced map,fuel preasure regulater, still running rich

I haven't worked on a '95 sunfire in many years but if memory serves me correctly the light is a sealed unit. The best bet is to get a replacement at the local auto parts store and use it as a model to guide you.

check for power coming from coil packs to wires, could be bad wires, coil packs, ignition module(under coilpacks). check all fuses as well

Changing spark plug wires
WEll u dont need to remove anything This is what i did lift your car up with a jack. where you oil filter is you will see you plug wires running into your (ICM) Ignition Module unplug them and slide them to the top of your motor. dont get them mixed up otherwise your timeing will be messed up and your car wont start. on the ICM from the top to bottom the plug numbers are 2,3,1,4 and on top of the moter from left to right 1,2,3,4 just make for sure u have the right order..
