1997 Mercury Villager Thermostat Replacement

Need help on thermostat removal instructions. The thermostat appears to be wayyyy tucked under back on the left side of the engine. It appears that the thermostat housing has 2 hoses attached to it (one large, one small). It also looks as though there is a plastic cover in the way which will need to be removed just to get at it. Not your typical easy thermostat removal at all. Does all this sound right? Anybody have experience with this?

Thermostat location in engine

Hi there:
Check the spring end goes into the hose outlet housing as shown in the picture below...

The jiggle valve goes to the top. It is to allow air to purge past the thermostat when refilling the coolant.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Where is the thermostat on a 1997 mercury villager?

Find the top radiator hose and follow it to the engine.
The hose should connect to the top area of the engine to what looks like an "elbow" with two bolts on each side. This "elbow" is the thermostat housing.
When these two bolts are removed...housing can be removed and thermostat is right there.

Hope this helps...

No heat in my villager

you have air trapped in the engine. very common. park van uphill, fill radiator & reservoir, turn on heater, leave cap loose. wait for engine to warm up to burp air.
