Question about 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer

1 Answer

93 s10 blazer pushbutton fwd. The four wheel drive engages but will at times make a loud whinning noise and loose power to the wheels. This goes away by going back into 2wd after quite a clunk. Any suggestions?

FWD stays engaged under load but occasionally comes out and I hear a grinding/ratchetting noise like somethin is trying to mesh. Also happens in reverse sometimes.

If it feels like the front end is hopping or binding than I would put my money on the four wheel drive being engaged. On dry pavement the four wheel drive has no way of of slipping through a turn. the front end will hop to compensate for this.

If your lucky enough to find a snow covered parking lot or field or even a loose gravel road, try some tight turns. If the problem goes away its in the four wheel drive system.

1997 1500 suburban 4 wheel drive won't engage - what do i need to check

Is it a pushbutton four wheel drive. I'm pretty sure that year is. Nonetheless, the next thing to see is if the switch light just flashes or just stays at 2 high. If it is just flashing, good bet that you the shift actuator has a problem. I cant remember on those trucks but it's either bolted to the front diff or bolted to the transfer case. If no lights light up check to see if there is a fuse for the four wheel drive actuator. Good luck and let me know if this helps.

2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4...started making a horrible loud noise after my cruise control went out. I have recently replaced my hub and the brake pads and the CV axle. The noise comes and goes and only happens...

does it get louder above 45-60mph? and much quieter at low speeds. It could be wheel bearings, a rear differential or front differential. If its a grinding humming noise its wheel bearings, listenin to see if theyre coming from the front or rear, left or right, or both when your driving to know what wheel bearing are bad. If its a whinning noise, its probably a differential. check and listen to hear if its coming from the front or rear. Also, check for loose plastic around the wheels. Lastly check your tires for uneven or choppy wear. move your hands front to back on the top of the tire. does it feel really choppy and rough, maybe you just need new tires

My 93 s10 blazer 4wd it will go in high an low rang but will not lock in

On all the 90s s-10s there is a vacuum actuator under the battery tray and a vacuum switch on the transfer case itself. It is comon for the switch on the t-case to go bad and keep the front axle from engageing. If the front axle doesnt engage the truck will not have four wheel drive.let me know if this helped.

sounds like either a fuse or the do u have locking hubs that need to be engaged also when using 4 wheel drive there is actually only 2 wheels turning usually passenger front and driver back sometimes u also have to drive backwards to engage and also disengage 4 wheel drive finally it may be a transfer case problem check drive shafts and u joints make sure they are engaged
