Rear Window Switch Problem with Mk3 VW Golf 1.9TD

Hello - I have a 1993 1.9 TD Mk3 VW Golf, and I have a really funny problem. The rear left window is not working - stopped suddenly the other day. When I use the switch on either the dashboard or the door, the window does not go up or down, but the sunroof opens and closes.
Can anyone help ?

I had the same problem. After checking the window motor was not the problem i then checked the wiring harnes in the door. I beeped out all the connectors to make sure there were no broken wires and cleaned up all the contacts. The main connector looked quite corroded. I sprayed all the connectors with rust check and reassembled. The window is working fine now

Vw golf mk3 drivers switch wont operate drivers and passengers window

Test the door window motors, and first test the switch its selfIf you know how to test with a muiltimeter you can test to see if the sw is get voltage to it.If it is and dont work than the sw could be bad,,,But not untill you try getting voltage to the window motor if moter will run with a hot wire than its the sw,,if not replace moter.

Tip

Vw mk3 1993 to 1998

this is just a guideline when deciding on buying a used mk3 vw.

my experience is with a mk3 1996 i had for 5 years and a 1997 mk3 i've had for 2 years (both hatchbacks and different engine managements)

common parts that break are:

coil pack, fuel start relay, plugs on fuel pickup and fuel pump are corroded (fuel pickup access is under carpet in trunk), lower control arm bushes, clutch plate, temperature switch for fan, one or more of the sensors on the water hoses, driver side window mechanism and maybe others if they were rarely used (panels can be opened to lubricate them - they're quite expensive and a pain to replace)

also a good reseating of relays and fuses when all else fails might help in cleaning/reseating the contacts on relays and fuses.

Mk3 golf when central locking is activted the electric windows go

you have just found this out.it is a standard feature of all vw/audi/seat/skoda cars
unlock/hold key over, the windows will go down
lock/hold key over the windows will go up
then unlock the car with the remote, car reset.
sit in car with engine on,switch off engine(do not open any door)driver can open/close any window(you can even put your hand into window frame and it will rollback, all on its(not for fun)
if windows rollback after you have used button to close them you may have sticky runners/rubbers.
this is not in the hand book, tell all your friends.....only a german car.....

VW Golf braking system

I just did mine on a MK3 GTI, you turn both sides clockwise. DO NOT turn them anti-clockwise. Also, apply pressure to the piston while turning it. Hope you can learn from my mistakes.
