Question about 1999 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Engine cuts out while driving

Usually happens after the car has been running awhile (never first thing when we go out). It happened more often during the summer when the AC was on, but now it does it without AC running. It's not overheating.

The emergency flashers still work when this happens (I assume, they click), I am able to brake and put the windows down. When to pull over to restart, it sometimes it takes more than one try, and lately, revving the engine a little.

I see in responses to similar problems, people are told to check the distributor cap. Can someone let me know where that would be on a 1999 Honda Accord LS?

My Check Engine light came on recently, and this problem is occurring more often since then (was doing it occasionally prior).

It does seem to do it more often if I have less than 1/2 a tank of gas, could it be something to do with fuel filter, etc.?

I have also heard that there was a recall on this year/model for faulty ignition switches causing similar problems.

We recently had the alternator replaced, the car had a computer diagnostic check up run...nothing else was found to be wrong at that time. This was happening occasionally, prior to the diagnostic check.

Faulty distributors are somewhat common on civics and accords. best bet would be to get code scanned and report back

Typically a sudden hard miss in engine is spark plug coils. Stop by an Autozone and see if code comes up telling you which cylinder is cutting out, then replace coil.

Check engine light comes on and stays on until vehicle is turned

does sound like your coil pack is failing. be that as it may if you live in the states stop in at autozone... they will scan the codes for free and that should narrow down what the problem is.

I have a 2000 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8L engine. Engine dies all of a sudden without warning. Let it sit for awhile and engine starts and runs perfectly and then happens again. Mechanic at repair shop is...

I had the same problem with my 2000 le sabre custom. It would die in the middle of the interstate. I could throw it into neutral and it would restart and keep on going or I'd have to let it sit for about 5 minutes and it would usually start. There is no code, Dealer said to bring it in when it's happening. Yeah, right..if it's's not happening. Replaced the fuel pump twice, the camshaft and crankshaft sensors, but still happened randomly. I had to stop driving the car because it was unsafe.
