Question about Ford Focus

Possible cooling system problem

I have a 97 Ford Mondeo LX2 Sedan - bought car at 127,000km's - not long after I had a shutdown of all air vents, only coming through windscreen - temperature gauge is always on low. Have been driving for approx 2yrs with car like this. Air conditioning only partially working. Car is now starting to miss. Possibly has something to do with airflow. Sparkplugs changed last week - made no difference. Have looked on-line re common problems with this make/model and it seems cooling system is notorious for problems. Car nearly stalling when going slow and stopping and is starting to overheat, if I turn aircon off. Will probably take to Ford and get diagnostic done. Would appreciate your advice asap. Thanks - Mark Sims - Auckland NZ

Why is there smoke flowing from my ventilation vents? My truck is not over heating and there is no smoke coming from the engine. I have a 97 Ford, Expedition.

You mean from the aircon vent.Your cooling unit need a good chemical wash.Ice is forming in the cooling unit, the air outside is hot thus is the cold air forming smoke from contacting the hot air.

97 Ford Econoline air conditioning and vent settings blowing hot

I know from experience that if the coolant is to low ( not just the freon levels in the compresor but the antifreeze/coolant level as well) the AC system will not cool and will blow hot. Check the coolant Antifreeze and freon levels, even with the Coolant being a little low my 1998 Ford E150 Van will blow hot. After you have ruled out of these possibilities and the chance it is the thermostat most likely the problem is what Ford calls the "Flap" it controls the air flow through the vent system when you switch from Heat to AC. When the Flap is working it closes off one systems air flow so as to not interfere with the current climate selection.
