Try wiggling the key and tapping near the ignition and see.If the Key starts turning in the ignition. Also spray wd-40 in the ignition switch hole and let the wd-40 spray liquid remain in there for 30 minutes then see if you can turn the key in ignition.Try this wd-40 spray couple of times,if still the same problem then, the ignition has to be replaced. Also the keys are to be reprogrammed by the dealer.Without getting your car key reprogrammed they will not work with new ignition lock cylinder. This problem is very common in ford focus, many other users too have noticed this and are very disappointed with the ford service due to this problem.Click this link directly to see the same problem with other ford focus users;---http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2003/accessories-interior/key_wont_turn_in_the_ignition.shtml

Cycle the ignition on and off 8 times in a row, then you should hear he door locks cycle, press lock and then unlock on your remote(s) (all remoes must be present or it will be erased from he vehicles memory.) Your remotes should now be reprogrammed.
I just got a Focus myself with "special" key. Only came with one. You can't start car if key is not a transponder key. If yours was intermittantly working, I'd guess you now have a bad key.
You cannot make key yourself. You have to get dealer or locksmith to program it.
You can make a key yourself only if you have two working keys. I know ,sounds like a scam to make more money for Ford. I bought two keys off ebay for $25, now I need to get programmed. First quote I got was $110 for one key!!! And I have a working one.
But if you have no working ones, like you do, you have to tow to dealer or have locksmith reprogram, and I'd guess for more money!!!!
your key and new ignition switch needs to be reprogrammed into the security system. Some locksmiths may be able to do this, call around. If none are avail, it must be towed to the dealer for programming. Hopefully this helps
