You need to post more info on the vehicle. I know that you say it is a JIMMY but that does not work when it is time to find parts. 1500 or 2500? The sensor could be in the MAF device and if that is the case you should have driveability issues and a check engine light. So let us know about these things please.
outdoor temp sensor probably loose connection/failed. The outside air temp sensor is on the bottom drivers side of the grill. Find it and probe it w/ a multimeter. 0.0, or infinite resistance means the sensor is shot.
Also make sure you are getting power from the harness
Had the same problem, replaced the ambient air temp sensor in front of the radiator. Cost is like 10-15 bucks. Don't worry if temp doesn't change right away. Took me about 5 miles and then it worked great.
For general awareness, the outside air temperature sensor is located above the inside mirror. Try to reset the temperature measurement unit:1. Switch engine on.2. Press and hold clock minute (min) and hour (h) buttons simultaneoutly longer than 3 seconds. The display will show new temperature measurement unit.
Here's a link to show you where to look, appears it's to left of drivers headlight looking from in front of vehicle, attached to or near upper rad support. My guess is it will probably be a dealer item, depending how fast you want it I guess. Don't be afraid to pull wire connector off & clean & re-install it, just to see if that doesn't help. A little di-electric grease on installation is a good idea too, to help keep moisture out. When you get to link(page) scroll down to 4.6L engine, page 2 & click on that. Might not be your engine, but good chance ambient sensor is in same area.( http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c152801e0000 )
