Starter won't start on 86 buick regal FI 3.8 L already replaced starter & verified all fuses ??
I finally fixed this one.apparently the theft prevention system was no longer able to measure the resistor in my key. That thing that everyone refers to as a "chip" in the key is only a resistor, one of like 10 or 12 std values that computer is set to recognize. measured key res with meter, cut wires running to ign key contacts that read key and inserted a res = res meas on key.problem solved, theft prevention perm. bypassed! read somewhere the only ones this system prevents from starting car is the owner when it starts malfunctioning......how true

If you remove the starter you can use a pair of jumper cables to see if it is bad . Just hook cables to car battery ( car not running ) and touch ground to casing on starter and the hot to post . If it turns the torque will cause it to want to move if not secured .

Starter solenoid. I don't have the page here but in chiltons a page shows the ignition to fuse to relay to starter and if you look closely it's quite basic. I had same problem with constant fuse blow #8. The solenoid over time wears and sometimes sticks. When it sticks, your system can overload thus burn fuse. I bet you never stalled out while driving, but only when you shut off and start somewhere it's a no go. That's because you're system is already engaged. I had to change starter as solenoid part of it all. I see others suffer this same problem so please share this around. Solenoid can stick for a millisecond.

it is bolt on but there is two bolts that go straight up they will remove the starter make sure you disconnect the battery first and be careful not to mix the wires when installing new one good luck
