Question about 1992 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

I have a 94 Blazer I was changing the alternator on. I closed the hood to wait for someone to help me with the tensioner, but then when I went to re-open it, the cable snapped somehow, so that I basically have nothing from the lever inside to get it open. You can't get at the cable from under the dash, and you can get a bite on the ball(I guess you could call it) on the end of the wire by the hood, but pulling on it in any and every direction isn't releasing it. I NEED this Blazer to be running!!! I need to be worried about the electrical problem under the hood, not the stupid hood latch... I've got wrenches on the bolts and everything waiting for me!!! I don't have much room to work through the grill, either. And if I knew how the mechanism was shaped or put together, with pictures or something at least, I think I could figure it out. But right now I can't see anything, and nothing's working. Help!!!

have you tried to reach up from under side of engine compartment between the grill and radiator to where the latch is located if you can get there then you can release it manually bu feeling where the cable runs into arm of latch and sliding it by hand.

Try this while you are pulling on the cable wire to release the hood have someone to pull on the hood and maybe even tap it on the top and see if it will release let me know if this helps

The belt which runs the power steering and alternator broke on my '95 Windstar van. Is that hard to change? What is entailed? Is the tensioner hard to adjust?

something possibly froze up caused your belt to snap...spin by hand, all your pulleys including the tensioner. One maybe stiff or stuck, if not then follow the belt routing diagram under the hood, but getting the tensioner set might take a large screw driver or ratchet fit into a square hole in the tensioned itself allowing to install the belt.

I cant get the belt back on after i changed the water pump on my 1988 chevy corsica, i can get it close but not all the way

An extra set of hands may help, then with one guy holding back the tensioner you should be able to slide it onto the alternator pulley[if it's routed correctly, check the diagram under the hood for belt routing].

Do you have a diagram on how to install a serpentine belt on a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron?

1994 CHRYSLER LEBARON - V6 3.0L 2972cc 181ci GAS FI N 3

Open the hood, the diagram for the serpentine belt is on the cowling.

From DAYCO Catalog
Belt Routing Diagram (Alt., P.S., Idler & Tens.)
9e1b1eb.jpg

From comments to other users and Lebaron Owners; for remove, starting at the alternator pulley and going clockwise around the pathof the belt, the belt drops down and forward and goes under the idlerpulley, continues forward and less steeply downward and goes around thecrankshaft pulley clockwise, rises rearward going over the top or thetensioner pulley counterclockwise, then drops down and around the powersteering pump clockwise and rises to go around the alternator pulleyclockise (which is where I started the description). To loosen thetension to remove the belt, or to give you slack to install the beltwithout having to force it over a pulley while under tension you rotatethe tensioner pulley arm around its pivot clockwise according to the'94 shop manual. It doesn't show by what means to effect this rotation, but in the earlier manual I have ('89) it shows there to be a 1/2"square hole in the tensioner arm into which you insert a breaker barwith a 1/2" square drive which gives you the temporary lever to rotatethe tensioner against its spring action. I assume there is a similar1/2" square hole on the '94 you are working with. Interestingly, between '89 and '94 the idler pulley was added, and the requiredrotation of the tension arm changed from counterclockwise to clockwiseto relieve the tension."

I think this will help you get the belt on. Good luck.

Turn signal relay switch, 94 s10 chevy blazer

It's behind the dash panel just below the steering column. There are two relays for the fuel pump back there. Chande them both out.

I need to change the alternator on my 2000 dodge grand caravan sport. Can someone please tell me how to release tension on the serpentine belt? Thank You.

I have to use a 15mm open/closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley. Use the closed end of the 15mm and pull toward you and use the end of a cresent wrench to use for additional torque. You can slip the belt over the fixed pulley (not the tensioner pulley). Give yourself more room by not using the hood bar and use instead a broomstick on the right side to prop the hood open. I recommend a goodyear gator belt too. Good Luck, you'll need it with a caravan. Its on the left side. its the easyest pully to see.

Could you please tell me how to tighten my altenator belt on my 94 olds achiva s? Your help would be appreciated, thanks

I believe this car has a sliding alternator for putting tension on the belt. There should a bracket above the alternator with a bolt that goes through it and the alternator, loosen this bolt first. Next there should be a pivot bolt on the bottom of the alternator which when loosened you can tilt the alternator back adding tension to the belt. When you have it tilted back far enough just tighten up the bolts without releasing the alternator til the bolts are tightened up all the way. You may need a long pry bar such as the tire wrench to add a little extra tension that you just can't get by hand tightening. Hope this helps you.

Need to replace alternator in a 1989 chevy s10 blazer

With a serpentine belt, there is a tensioner pulley, so use a socket on a breaker arm placed on the bolt of the tensioner. Turn it until the belt goes slack. It helps to get someone else to hold that in place while you remove the alternator.

Both serpentine and V-belt are described here, and there are diagrams :
