Dash gas gauge stops showing proper gas level once it hits half a tank. Then gauge will fluctuate between empty (light will come on), full and anywhere in between but seems fine from full tank to half

If the trouble with the gauge started after you worked on it then you likely damaged or created a restriction to the movement of the sending unit. You will have to remove the tank and double-check your work.

hi it can really only be two things, first is the fuel sender on the pump inside the tank it could be stuffed or sticking causing a false reading, second it can also be a faulty fuel gauge on the dash.

Volvo S80 gauge indicates no or low fuel even when tank is half full.

The most likely culprit is a faulty Fuel Level Sending Unit (sends fuel level from tank to dash gauge). It may be stuck, or beyond repair and in need of replacement. Dealing with electronics in your tank can be tricky and should be dealt with by a professional.

Good luck!

Volvo v40 T4

you hose inside the fuel tank might be crack or it might have a hole i recomend you to inspec the hoses inside the fuel tank or make sure the sending unit inside the thank is working propelly
because sometimes the sending unit wich is the sensor for fuel level will read fuel at fuel gage when there is not fuel in the thank i seem this many times even experienced mechanics had replace fuel pump and then they find that there is not fuel in the tank
