When coil packs start to fail you will probably start getting a miss in the engine as the coil gets worse of course the miss will get worse..until a no start condition could occur

How do i find out if i should replace distributer pack in my 2000 mercury villager van

You must mean coil pack? It's very unlikely that the whole pack of coils suddenly go bad. The proper test procedure is to first determine if the coil pack is getting a primary signal (battery voltage) with the key in on, not start. Then one can opt to test each individual coil with an ohmmeter. This usually spots a bad coil. But again if it just suddenly wont start and run, the odds of a bad coil are low.
What usually happens is the Ignition Control Module (ICM) may be the problem or the crank position sensor could be the problem. Find videos on YouTube how to test the ignition system-there are almost surely videos for mercury vans.

On a 2006 Dodge Gran Caravan 3.8, I have no spark on #6 contact on coil pack, when pulling of the boot. Do coil packs go bad? Any other possibilities?

My thinking is, if all the other cylinders have spark, the coil pack is faulty. I'd also change spark plugs and plug wires. Check good primary voltage to coil pack. I didn't think to look for dedicated ground, but, check that also, where applicable.

2002 Taurus will not start until pressure is applied to the coil wires

Corroded terminals on the coil pack or coil pack connector would be the easiest thing check. If the wiring and terminals look good, then I would replace the coil pack.

Mifire on 1 and number 2 cylinder on my dakota 4.7 litre

When this happens you have a bad coil pack on the impacted cylinder. This is a fairly common occurrence on the Chrysler 4.7, and the fix is simple. Replace the coil packs for the impacted cylinders. Most will replace all 8 of the coil packs to avoid having to do this again, but you will be fine replacing only the ones that are implacted. You can save a few dollars and get some from an auto salvage yard, the chances of you getting a bad one are slim-to-none.

MY 1998 DODGE NEON WONT START. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE CAM SENSOR AND DID SO. THE COIL WAS CHECKED AND ITS GOOD. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM

I bought one with the same problem, the mechanic chaged: camshaft sensor (it was ok), the coil pack (was ok too), the pcmodule( ok too) the arness (ok) and did not start. I checked timing belt and was ok. but wen I did the compresion test , every cilynder was too low ( 10 30 an 0), my firsth idea was head gasket replecement, and wen was remooving the camshaft sprocket Bingo: the small pin was broken (that means that the camshaft sprocket was not align in time) Had to chage the head an the camshaft both in terrible shape. bad lobes and cam bearings worn out. wen I crancked it start at the first time. PD. the head wasnt craked, the head gasket was good too and the valves ok .

2002 GMC Envoy Coil Packs / Coil Module Assembly's going bad

swap it with another and check the code again to ensure that it is coil pack 3. This car doesn't have adiquate sensors to diagnose this properly and may indicate the wrong coil. Yes this is comon, its happened to me and I have the same make and model.
