I had the same problem in my 98 Dodge Dakota! Replaced the heater core, problem solved. No more funky coolant smell and erie fog coming through my vents. I bought the heater core at rockauto.com online. Have purchased many items now from them. All factory parts so far at half the price of even AutoZone, even with the shipping. Also, you usually have to wait only a couple of days depending on the part and they have EVERYTHING.

Your vehicle is or may be included in a vehicle recall initiated by ford.
The problem is with your cruise control wiring. What happens is: Brake fluid manages to get to the cruise control wiring and corrodes it, this can lead to overheating, the latter resulting in engine fire.

ADVICE: 1. keep this vehicle out of your garage 2. Take this to your ford dealer ASAP, they, according to their website, will fix this at no cost.

I think maybe you have a rat or cat that crawled into your warm engine compartment and got fried and maybe chewed on some wires

Are you sure its smoke not steam? Most common problem is the heater core leaking. Look for moisture on the floor boards first. If it is wet then you have a heater core problem

Smoke coming through vents temp. gauge going up acting like its going 2 overheat turn heater on hot and smokes bad turn to cool and smokes a little my husband thinks it's the thermostat and wants to...

If the heater core is leaking, you would get a lot of steam that would smell "sweet". That would also leave you low on coolant, which could be a source of your overheating. If it's more of an electrical smell, you may have a blower motor or a blower motor resistor going bad, but won't cause the engine to overheat.

Ford f-150 that has smoke coming inside the vents when you drive it.what would cause this? 4.5 v-8

You trucks heater core is leaking inside the dash heating vents, the air blower motor blows through the heater core and then you smell the leaking coolant in the form of a sickly sweet vapor. You will need to replace the header core, this is a fairly big job and in most cases best left to a professional.

I recently had my air cond repaired on my ford f150 5.0 but when I dont use it I see smoke coming out the vents its a 1987 pickup.

It sounds like a hole in your heater core, especially if you've been smelling antifreeze. It is located behind the glove box and is relatively inexpensive & easy to replace for the do-it-yourself er.

If it is a kind of sweet smell then your heater core needs to be replaced. It's leaking and you should keep an eye on your coolant level until you get it fixed. The smoke is coolant. Hope this helps.
