Reset your computer, unplug the negative cable on your battery for about five minutes.

Kia Rio 2005 is Surging... just had Heads rebuilt after timing belt broke.

could be an ecm program problem
try and get a scanner to reset the ECM / cpu program as it can be corrupted after a long period of not battery connected
another possible problem is that the fuel pressure regulator / pump or possible dirty injectors
the relation to the head problem is , sitting for long periods can introduce dirt into the fuel lines or allow diaphragms to dry out
if your neighbor is mechanically savvy get a fuel pressure gauge to test fuel pressure as well

Can't get shifter into park

sounds like the parking pawl in the transmission or the manual shift valve is sticking or the manual linkage in the trans is bent. youll have to have a technician drop the trans pan and observe these parts with an assistant shifting the lever in the car back and forth. If the PRNDL light for park is not lit, then the vehicle is not completely in park. You can start and vehicle with the lever in NEUTRAL to get you anywhere.

Shift cable is bad or out of adjustment
& there may be a switch that has to be
in the correct position to start the car

I was driving from Santa Ana back to Canoga Park. Around 1hour driving. Everything was fine, then I stopped at a Best Buy. After 5 minutes, i went back tonmy car and it won't start any more

I would look at either the park/neutral safety switch or the brake light switch. If either are bad, all the lights will come on but the ECM won't release the start signal to the starter solenoid.

99 mercedes-bens c-230 wont shift out of drive

There is a safety device that operates off of the brake pedal that maybe is not working properly. When shifting transmission depress brake pedal. Try this, depress brake pedal as far as it goes, turn key to off position as if you are goig to remove, while pressing on brake try shifting transmission to park. I hope this helps.

Turn the key and nothing happens

check the neutral safty switch, if this is bad it will not start in park. put it ineutral and see if it starts. if so switch is bad. also the vehicles made lately have a switch in back of brake pedal witch means brake has to be pressed to start car. check safety switch first.
