Question about 2001 Ford Taurus

Heater on 2001 ford taurus blows warm air then turns cold

My mechanic said today that he " flushed the system 3 times and added antifreeeze" I bhope that he didn't flush the radiator because everyone that I know who flushes and filled their car radiators had to replace them with new ones. He said that if that didn't work that a heater coil replacement woud cost about $450

    I have same problem Mechanic flushed 3 times also so far heat is working
    He told me if it goes cold again I need new heater coil and job would cost close to $900 dollars.

    I have a 1997 Ford Taurus with the same problem! I've been struggling with it for over 6 years. Mechanic recently replaced the radiator (it was leaking profusely) and surprisingly the heater worked better for a couple weeks. Now I'm back to scraping the inside of my windows to see to drive!!! BRRRR!!!!

The heater core is probably bad and costs about 45.00 at the auto parts store.

When your heater blows cold air


flush the cooling system, probably clogged. happened to me a bit ago with a 99 cherrokee. hope it helps ya.

My 2000 ford taurus heater stoped working. it seemed to blow out warm air then went cold. what should I do?


Mine did the same thing, except here it is very cold. I took it to a radiator specialist, and what he did was nothing short of genius. First he disconnected the hoses to the rad, heater core and engine, and then flushed each seperately. Then he reassembled it all, put in fresh antifreeze (50/50 mix) and restricted the crossover at the heater core. Now, in -20 celsius, it's so hot in the car I turn the heat almost off. I am not kidding. This is the only way to go as the cooling system gets plugged from short haul driving, sediments in the cooling system, etc. Cost me about $150.00. I am very mechanically adept, but I went and had a professional do it. Best choice.

Had similar problem. The actuator that opens & closes the air blend door quit working. This is easy to see if you remove glove box. The actuator will move when you adjust the temp selector (do this while the heater is running).

Check the coolant level.Feel the heater hoses going to the heater core to see if they are warm,or hot.If one of them is warm,or hot,and the other is not,remove the heater hoses,and flush the heater core out with a water hose.Bleed the coolant system,and you might want to install a new thermostat while you are at it.

My 2002 Taurus will not heat up inside the car when the engine is up to temp. Stays cold inside, heater only blows slightly warm air. What is the problem?


have the heater core flushed seperately from the rest of the system i have seen this on this model many times

No heat air is blowing cold


First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced.
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is worm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest to flush the heater core.

MY 1998 FOR TARUS HEATER WILL NOT WORK.WAS DRIVING


It is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator. But just in case I would suggest to follow the entire procedure:
