My 2003 Grand Caravan only works on high for heater and a/c

  • jwallace809 Feb 09, 2009

my air only blows on high but when I turn down the air it feels like the air stops blowing

My fan also works only on high. Fuse is ok, switch seems to test out ok W/ Volt ohm meter, but I had baffling results when I tried to jump the blower motor at the connecter behind the dash so I'm currently trying to find a schmatic to trouble shoot further. I have had this problem before in my tractors and a 37 Studebaker I restored but it was always the reostat in the switch but these where simpler systems (KISS). I'll let you know what I find, I'm sure it will be simple.

    no heat

I have the same problem with the blower dying. I replaced the resistor now the blower works. However, the heat is still low, where is the heater valve located?

    Thanks!~

The problem is a bad transistor in the resistor module located in the air duct behind the glove box. Just replace the whole module. Mine was only $17 and a ten minute job.

Heater isnt blowing warm air in 2003 grand caravan

Assuming the radiator is full of coolant, you are describing a faulty thermostat. The thermostat is closed when the engine is cold to restrict coolant flow until it warms up.

Is there some type of fuse on my 2003 Dodge Grand caravan that I may need to change if it isnt blowing warm air, when the heat is on?

Hello, if its not blowing hot air its probably either the thermostate is stuck open or your heater core is stopped up.

Having trouble with the heater in my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. When the car is driving around the neighborhood or stopped at an intersection, only cold air blows. Only with extended constant acceleration,...

Yes . Your heater is actually not an Electrical Heater or a Separate Heating system . Actually if uses the same Radiator Line . When Radiator is heated up it is cooled down with radiator Fan and coolant . But when you use the heater function , this hot fluid is passed through a heating coil tube and blower fan is used to take that heat inside the car .
So I think now you understand , why you are not heated up in a short run . You really need to make the Engine + Radiator Warmer ( that is natuarlly happened when you run more) to get Warm air inside.

sounds like you have a actuator problem or the heater core may be stoped up check and make sure actuator is moving if not replace

make sure both heater core hoses are hot to touch at operating temp if both are not hot replace heater core

and of course check your coolant/antifreeze and insure it is full no water no heat

Cabin Heat is Intermittent / Fluctuates / Cycles

You may have air trapped in the lines to or from the heater core.
If you (still) have a real radiator cap on the radiator, remove it with a cold engine, start and run the engine allowing it to warm up while watching the water/coolant level. Make sure the heater control is set to its highest heat setting while doing this. If it is trapped air, you may see it 'belch' after the engine is warm and the engine thermostat is open. Refill as needed if this is the case.
It's more difficult without direct radiator access and may require several cycles of hot/cold to allow refilling through the overflow.

Heater blowing cold air on 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

misty check the water level in the radiato...if it is low the last thing to get any water is the heater core..if low you will need to find the reason...like a water pump or headgasket leaking
