Check engine light will not come on

My check engine light will not come on when you start the car, so it made my car fail inspection. It does have a code, but I can not remember what I did with the paper. The car runs fine, but the mechanic said if I can find out what the code was he could reset it. Other than that the he said car runs great. please help. I need my car, and I do not have time to be getting no unnecessary tickets for driving my car with suspended inspection. :{

Sounds like you have some EGR ports clogged up, remove the intake and look at the egr ports all but
#1 cyl port will probably be at least partially clogged, hope this helps

it is very possible that the tech caused the light to come on, and yes again your local autozone will be able to clear the code for you but keep in mind if there is truely a problem the light will come back on.

whoever installed the egr valve, if it wasnt you, just cleared the engine codes, thus giving you this problem once again. Get it scanned at autozone, and go from there.

Yes if you disconnect the battery then the stradegies reset and it does take awhile for them to reset.
However if the service engine soon light is coming on then there is a problem with your vehicle. You will need to have it scanned for codes. Since you are blowing black smoke at start up I suspect either a vacuum line is off or a loose connection at the Mass Air Flow sensor.

your code is or the following. Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Malfunction. This may involve removing your gas tank to fix. Go to the parts store and they can get you the parts you need and let you know for sure.

I have a 2011 Kia Sorento with 94k miles. Recently my engine warning light came on. It is driving great, but I went to Kia to have it checked. Said my intake manafold needs to be replaced.

If the check engine light came on I assume it was the check engine light, then you may feel no symptom for the code but never the less you have a failed part of other electrical issue, so if the manifold needs to be replaced to correct the check engine light and its fault code then that is what needs to be done. Remember if the CEL is on you will fail any emission inspection that is required.

Why can't I pass smog check engine light won't come on

The smog check requires a visual inspection of your check engine light. It has to come on for a bulb check at startup to make sure it's working. But, the light must go out after starting the engine(it cannot stay on after the engine starts during a smog check). If the check engine light fails either of these two tests, the vehicle will fail the smog check inspection.
You need to have the cause of your inoperative check engine light diagnosed and repaired.

How can I get the "check engine light to go out" on my 1999 Ford Escort so I can get it inspected and they use computers that record the inspection directly to the MVD

What is the engine code?

Almost any part store will be able to read and clear codes. depending on what the code is, the light may stay off long enough to get an inspection.

Went to inspection yesterday and my Avalon passed then later that day my engine light came on

The inspectors had to remove your fuel cap to inspect it and might have failed to put it back on tight enough. This is a common problem and will cause your "check engine light" to come on. Check the tightness of the cap and then take your car to any major auto parts store and have them read out the stored trouble code that was set when the check engine light came on. They will do this for free. Copy down the code(s) and then have them erased. This will reset the check engine light. Check the code(s) at the store to see if it corresponds to a loose fuel cap. If so, your problem is solved.

If not, you lucked out and passed your inspection just before a problem cropped up! Use the codes you copied down and get code definitions at the auto parts store. This is the place to start for diagnosing the problem.

I have a 2007 toyota corolla automatic.. I have had the check engine light on and cannot get it inspected with the light on i brought it too a garage and the transmission specialist said that that code...

Any code that puts on the check engine light is a failure for inspection. Your mechanic has given you bad information. What you need to do is fix the code causing problem then drive vehicle for a few days to reset all inspection monitors. You will not pass inspection with a check engine light on unfortunately. Hope this helps.

Check engine light is on- reason- Evap emission control system malfunction- code PO440

Causes: A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* The gas cap is not installed or working properly
* The purge solenoid has failed
* The canister is plugged and not working properly

Possible Solutions: With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
* Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
* Check and/or replace the sensor
* Check and/or replace the purge valve
* Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

Hope helps (remember to rate this).

Emission Failed Inspection. Engine light not on.

I've always found the following to help with emissions tests on older cars: Check & replace air cleaner if dirty (difficult to see light through it), Check spark plugs ( will also be good indicator of any bad cylinder so keep them in order of removal) - if any look/measure bad, replace the set. Check engine oil quality & replace if dirty (or you can't remember the last  time it was changed). Dirty oil = higher emissions.
Run engine on higher grade fuel for a few days and during test (better fuel = lower emissions). If o2 sensor is the problem it will set off codes.

Car failed inspection because of the check engine light

to ideas come to mind, maybe a bad bulb in the dash (you can take this out (depending on mechanical knowledge)

or find a smaller inspections shop and try taking the car in again in hopes of that they won't catch it
