Before it failed completely, the radio was intermittent, but disconnecting the battery usually reset it to working for a little while.
Also, when the radio failed permanently, the lights on the three equalizer sliders flash rapidly (you could even call it flickering.)

I had the exact problem. The stock radios are garbage. When you reconnect the battery it blows the radio.
Similar issue with my 2001 Caravan stereo w/ 4-disc player. Radio works for 10-20 minutes, then it begins to cut out every minute or 30 seconds (EQ lights flash when power cuts out). The radio will cut out more and more frequently until it's dying every second or so (EQ lights are continously blinking at this point).
Stereo has been good to us for 7 years but buying dealership replacement is too expensive. Finding aftermarket to fit radio slot and separate 4-disc changer slot hasn't been successful. What are the alternatives?
