Need to replace pulley for serpentine belt on a 2000 Eclipse

The bolt that connects the crank shaft to the serpentine belt pulley - is it right hand threaded or left hand threaded

Remove and replace alternator


Hello,

Just follow these steps to remove and replace the alternator. You will need this tools, Serpentine belt tool, Battery wrench, Lug wrench, Floor jack, Jack stand, Socket set,

  1. Open the hood, locate the serpentine belt tensioner and move the tensioner off the
    serpentine belt with the serpentine belt tool. Slip the belt off the tensioner
    pulley with your other hand and then slowly move the tensioner back to its normal
    position. You can pinpoint the location of the belt tensioner by following the belt
    routing diagram, printed on the fan shroud.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery with the battery wrench.
    Push the cable end away from the battery so it doesn't make contact during the
    repair.
  3. Turn the lug nuts on the right-front wheel counterclockwise until they're loose
    enough for hand removal, but leave them on for now.
  4. Lift the right-front end with the floor jack and support it on a jack stand placed
    underneath the right-front frame. Remove the lug nuts and right-front wheel by hand
    and set them aside.
  5. Slip the serpentine belt off the alternator pulley by hand. You can access the
    alternator through the wheel well. Unplug the wiring harness from the alternator
    by hand and remove the ground strap with your socket set.
  6. Remove the alternator mounting bolts with your socket set. Lift the alternator out
    of the engine well, through the wheel well. Insert the new alternator in reverse of
    how you removed the old one.
  7. Thread the alternator mounting bolt through the new alternator and into the
    alternator bracket by hand. Tighten the bolts with your socket set.
  8. Attach the alternator ground strap with your socket set. Plug the alternator
    wiring harness in by hand.
  9. Slip the serpentine belt over the new alternator pulley. Reinstall the wheel and
    lug nuts by hand. Lower the Taurus of the jack stand with the floor jack.
  10. Move the belt tensioner aside again and place the belt on the tensioner pulley with
    your free hand. Hold the belt on the pulley and slowly move the tensioner back to
    its normal position. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.

Replaced serpintine belt for power steering, alternator and crank shaft but belt still squeels. And appears to be tight. Slack is of 1/4 in..Is there one of these three components froze up. Power steering...


The crank shaft is not froze up if the engine is running. Without knowing how severe the situation is, it is probably best to remove the belt and feel each pulley or drive wheel to detect the condition of the bearings. It should be very clear which pulley bearing is loose by "wiggling" the pulleys. One of the pulleys will have a lot of play in the bearing. Also the pulley with the bad bearing will be hard to turn by hand with the belt off. Be sure to check every pulley on that belt circuit, except the crank shaft, you can't turn it by hand.

Hi, first pop the hood and find the serpentine and alternator belts on the left side of the engine compartment. The serpentine belt runs around four pulleys. The alternator belt uses two pulleys. They share space on the drive shaft so they are right next to each other.
Of the four pulleys using the serpentine belt, three of them are vertically in line (closer to the front of the car) and the fourth stands alone (closer to the cab). Of the three vertically in line, the middle pulley is the one used to adjust the tension on the belt.
You must first break loose the bolt in the center of the tension pulley (the bolt is facing the passenger tire) by turning it counter clockwise. Then leave that bolt and go to the bolt connected frame connected to the other side of the tension pulley (this bolt is facing the front of the car). Turn that bolt counter clockwise until the serpentine belt is loose enough to pull off. Replace the belt and tighten in the opposite order. Once the desired tension is reached, crank the car and run it for a few minutes. Finally cut the car off and check the tension, tighten or loosen as necessary.

Change a crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 eclipse


Is this a V6 or 4cyl???>>>(V6) This requires removing the Harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). Remove (R) front wheel, remove engine splash Guard, Remove crank pulley, remove lower timing belt cover. The Crank sensor is located behind the crank shaft pulley!! I highly recommend having this done by a certified tech, requires special tools. Hopefully this helps!!

Both belts snapped off while driving my 2000 nissan maxima gle- 80,000 miles on both belts - now I have to replace them - I have taken off the right front tire and have gained access to pulleys'. In order...


belts dont just "snap" find out what happened. there will be bolts and slots to loosen and tighten PS belts on pump, and a tensioner pulley on th ealt belt. on the idler.

2003 v6 dakota serpentine belt shreds


I'd be more inclined to check that idler pulleys and alternator bearings are okay before looking at crank pulley. Take off the belt and give them a good wiggle and spin.

AC belt on 1999 Chrysler 300M


When you replace the AC belt you really should replace the serpentine belt as well, since you will have to take it off already. If you don't do it now it is inevitable that you will have to replace it in like 3 weeks anyway : )

You need to first remove the serpentine belt by loosening the nut in the center of the idler pulley. After that you will need to loosen the push bolt on the side of the idler pulley. The hub bolt is a 15mm size and the push bolt on the side of the tensioner is a 13mm I think. After you loosen it sufficiently, you will need to pull off the old belt.

Next you will need to loosen the tensioner pulley for the AC belt as well. It is the same process. The main issue is space. You will most likely need to raise your car to get at the right angles to loosen these pulleys.

Once you loosen the idler pulley in the same manner as you loosened the other, you can slip the AC belt onto the back of the crank pulley and route it as the diagram under your hood instructs you. Next tighten up the idler pully in the opposite way as you loosend it...tighten up the push bolt until the belt play is within factory specifications, then tighten the hub bolt in the center of the pulley. Do the same for the serpentine belt and you should be up and running in no time. I just performed these tasks on my 2000 300m and I wish someone would have told me this before I started my project.
