Po171 is a lean condition on bank one ( only one) o2 sensor in front of the catalytic converter. Could be a mass air also could be a vacuum leak. or a bad o2 so dont jump to expersive parts unless you have another car to swap stuff around

How to fix error codes p0171 and p0232

Code 171 is for the fuel mixture on bank one is too lean, and code 232 is for a problem with the fuel pump circuit.
Code 232 could cause code 171 or 171 could be something going on with one of the O2 sensors.
You would need to take a scanner and watch the activity on the O2 sensors, and check base fuel pressure with a gauge.

Code po 171 chevy silverado 5.3

Code 171 is for a problem where the O2 sensor is telling the computer the fuel trim is too lean on bank one and the computer can not make it go to rich.
The computer controls the on time for the injectors to adjust the fuel mixture.
The problem could be one of the O2 sensors or something with the injectors or the fuel pressure.

Code 53 is for a problem with the heater in the O2 sensor for bank one sensor one. It could be something in the wiring or you could have a defective sensor.

PO 171 and PO 174

You did not list a vehicle, so here are the generic codes.
Code 171 is system lean bank one and code 174 is system lean bank two.
The computer is getting a signal from the O2 sensors saying the fuel system is too lean, and the computer can not make it rich.
Possible causes are low fuel pressure, vac leaks, EGR valve problems, and so on.

2006 hundai elantra P2270 code. If this is an O2 sensor, which one?

Possible O2 sensors:

P2270 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 2
P2271 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 1 Sensor 2
P2272 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2273 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 2
P2274 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 3
P2275 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 1 Sensor 3
P2276 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 3
P2277 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich Bank 2 Sensor 3
P2278 O2 Sensor Signals Swapped Bank 1 Sensor 3 / Bank 2 Sensor 3
---
This is Bank 1 (closer to the dash panel) Sensor 2 (located after the catalytic converter).

---
Note: A malfunctioning front oxygen sensor may cause fuel trim codes to set.
  1. Several Diagnostic Trouble Codes use specific terminology to refer to sensor location. The illustration and key below explain the following terms:
  2. Engine BANK Bank 1 is closer to the dash panel, (also referred to as RH or right hand). Bank 2 is closer to the radiator, (also referred to as LH or left hand).
  3. UP Refers to Sensor 1 or "front sensor". It is located closer to the exhaust manifold and before the catalytic converter.
  4. DOWN Refers to Sensor 2 or "rear sensor." It is located after the catalytic converter.
  5. The following examples show how to interpret oxygen sensor terminology:
  6. B1/S1 = Bank 1/Sensor 1 = Dash panel side, BEFORE the catalyst or "upstream"
  7. B2/S2 = Bank 2/Sensor 2 = Radiator side, AFTER the catalyst or "downstream"

Try some injector cleaner in order to see if the lean condition improves. Lean conditions can sometimes be caused by o2 sensors or other sensors that are not within specifications.

03 harley f 150 and check engine code came up 171 bank 1 system 2 lean. is this the downward passenger side o2 sensor and if so where is it located and does it take a special tool to change? thanx, steve

Bank one, sensor 1 O2 sensor is on the pass side. The first one in the headpipe/exhaust manifold. If you can get a 7/8 wrench on it,you should be able it remove it. You might have to borrow an O2 sensor socket. It has a slot through it to get it over the wire.
Hope this helps!

O2 sensor location 1997 pontiac grand am 2.4 4 cyl auto trans

BANK 1 SENSOR 1 IS THE ONE IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. BANK 2 SENSOR 2 IS BELOW THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

P0171 SHOULD GO AWAY WITH A GOOD O2 SENSOR BUT DO CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS TO BE SURE. 3.1/3.4L ENGINES HAVE A BAD DESIGN INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, THE LEAK OIL, COOLANT, AND AIR.

Hi
171 system too lean
174 system too lean
2195 - 02 ozygen sensor signal stuck lean Bank1 Sensor 1
2197- 02 ozygen sensor signal stuck lean Bank 2
Sensor 1
The 2 front 02 sensors are located on the front of
the exhaust manifold.
Should solve problem and increase gas mileage.
