IT IS AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE DRIVERS SIDE DOWN LOW, IT IS HELD IN PLACE BY 2 BOLTS, BEFORE YOU START DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, SAFETY 1ST ALWAYS, 1ST DISCONNECT THE WIRES TO THE STARTER AND MARK WHERE THEY GO ON THE STARTER, THEN REMOVE THE STARTER BOLTS AND THE STARTER WILL DROP OUT BY PULLING IT BACK AND DOWN, BE CAREFUL OF SHARP METAL SHIELDS ON THE EXHAUST.

My 1990 chrysler new yorker clicks when i try to start. A little later i try again & starts right up & runs fine. Within a couple days it wont start, only clicks once...repeat

Probably the starter solenoid. Over time the contact points, or plates, inside the solenoid get pitted or worn down. The starter will have to be removed to separate the starter motor and solenoid. Or just get a used starter and try it.

Bad starter or possible poor battery cable or starter cable connection.

How do I replace the solenoid on the starter?? we need step by step instructions. thank you

You remove the starter

Then replace the solenoid and
reinstall the starter

Not a real difficult job,if you need
instructions I would suggest you
jack up the car, support it,look over the
task first

If you have very little in the way of tools,
no metric tools, you will want an experienced
car guy there to show you how

Just saw this post. Maybe you've already found the answer by now. I have an 87 new yorker. i have the manual that came with the car. The fuse box should be under the stearing column to the left. Cover pops off. The turn signal lamps take a 20 amp fuse. it goes in cavity #10
