Question about 1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited

1 Answer

4x4automatic: stuck in 3rd gear from start.

I bought itused, knowing it had issues (figured at the very less, it rolls) I can manuallyshift to and from, what I think is, 2nd gear but the car will not shift on itsown. I’ve checked the transmission fluid when I 1st got it, and it was old, replaced it, and it has stayed nice and brilliant. 4x4 doesn’t have any issues.Been driving it fine without any other issues (Except for the fact that it will hold a charge) I was told by some other jeep owners the trans is either totaled (expensive fix) orit’s a matter of fixing/replacing the kick down (cheap fix). Any thoughts?

It does not make a difference if the kickdown cable is out of adjustment. If the cable is out of adjustment, the jeep simply won't shift into higher gears, but it will always start in first gear. I believe that the tranny has been neglected and not had an oil change(before you did it)in a long time. The clutches in the tranny will fuse together and give you your simpton.

That code has zero to do with the transmission issue. You have a mechanical failure in the tranny most likely, but have the TCM module scanned first before doing any parts replacement. P0171 is most likely an O2 sensor issue, it is indicating lean fuel.

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

1984 ram 150 225 engine 4speed starter?; at first

have you tried to roll the pickup and put it in first gear because you have to roll the pickup to a certain speed like 10 mph or so and then put it into first gear should start the pickup. If this does not work that you have serious engine problems with that old pickup and might be inside the tramsmission problem. So let me know if this works out

1990 Toyota PICK UP SR5 V6, when in gear and start releasing clutch pedal, truck starts moving forward with slight jerking. As soon as I give it gas, it starts to **** harder, forcing me to shift into 2nd...

Sounds like it is a clutch issue. Have the clutch plate checked or check the clutch and friction plates. I know it sounds strange but In reality we always press teh clutch all teh way in to shift. But going from 2nd to third you actually don't have to. Going from 3rd to 4th is even less of a distance. It may be a problem between the clutch and friction plates depending on when you last had them changed and adjusted.

Just bought this car; it is an automatic 2007 3-speed Yaris. When starting, the cool temp light stays on for 5 minutes or longer. If I start driving the car before that light turns off, the gears don't...

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Please let me shed a bit of light on your issue.

The blue coolant temperature light comes on when the coolant is below 177 degrees. That is the bottom threshold for the Overdrive to engage. In other words, the OD will not activate, (actually, it is prevented from engaging) until the coolant temperature reaches 177 degrees F. This is purposely done, because allowing the OD to engage sooner will allow excessive emissions, with a colder engine.

There is no need to wait until the blue light goes off to start driving. Your transmission just won't make the final shift until the optimum temperature is reached. This is a normal condition.

If you have an actual issue, your 'check engine' light will illuminate, and it will stay on.
