The fact that you have to put oil in the cylinders indicates there is little compression. The bushings are knocking also . you will have to overhaul the engine. Or rebuild it.

I have a 1992 Lexus LS400 that has a loud knocking noise in the rear of the car only when I'm driving straight or turn the wheel to the left it goes away when I turn to the right what could it be?

the lexus has independent rear suspension which is more complexed than solid axle there are many components that can cause your problem so this is what you must check lower and upper control arm bushes stabilizer links and stabilizer bushes diff mountings subframe bushes inner and outer cv joints and propshaft universal joints and carrier bearings

Knocking noise coming from the back of the van when driving

what seals ? do you mean wheel bearing seals ? if so this is a problem that will eventually result in bearing failure and could make wheels come off if let go to failure point ,(takes a long time)

the way you wrote this reminded me of a fellow that just got a brand new van and brought it to me in a fluster one day saying it makes horrible banging noises only when he drives it <not sitting still, I pulled it into service bay and put up on rack , when I took hubcaps off to access the wheels I nearly laughed to death !!! seems his Not so funny neighbor had added a handful of gravel to the inside of his hubcaps for a bit of fun with him !!!

Knocking in rear suspension

Check suspension pivot points and bushes for excessive wear. Check shocky mount rubbers for condition and tightness.

I have a knocking sound from rear passenger sidewhenever i go ver bumps and when speeding the car makes a howling sound

Sounds like broken spring, or collapsed suspension strut, or collapsed wheel baring, or broken upper or lower control arm or extremely worn bushes, or all the above. what is it your driving? what sort of bumps? speed bumps? or 4x4ing bumps? or just general bumps in the road?

Front driver side suspension knock over bumps

See if you can bounce car and replicate the noise. If you can, you should be able to find it, and put your hand on it. Stabilizer bushing are a place to look, both at the lower a arm and on the frame. If you narrow it down to the strut, it will need to be replaced. The front trans mount also goes bad, try putting it in drive with your foot on the brake and give it some gas and see if the engine moves an excessive amount.

Rear knocking on uk 1999 impreza

Check the bottom Y shaped arm which holds the wheel steady not allowing it to move back or front. Once this play becomes more than half an inch, this starts making knocking sounds as if somebody is tapping on the chassis. This Y shaped arm has both arms attached to the chassis, each having a metal covered rubber bush. Change both bushes and the sound will vanish......................sodeep

Rear suspension

the best thing to do is bring it to a local shop
i dont know what it is like where you are but at my shop it doesnt cost anything to see what a problem is. anything is usually replaceable and if it is a bushing in the suspension it is probably a trailing arm or a lateral link "i think that is the real part name" they are not expensive. phone a couple of garages and ask them if there is a cost to find the problem
