Question about 1999 Saturn SL

1 Answer

I live in Northern Ontario, I have a 1999 Saturn SL. Might be a silly question, but is there a block heater available for my car? I've had it for just over 2 years, last winter it "lived" in a garage, during the nights etc so I didn't worry about it too much with regards to starting etc. But now we've moved and don't have a garage, so I'm a little more concerned.

Not sure about a factory one but I know they make an aftermarket one that glues to the oil pan to keep oil warm.

1999 saturn SL 1, doesn't start, no interior lights, no clock, if you wiggle wires next to gas pedal it will work, what part do i need to replace?

If you are talking about the wires that run to the backside of the fuse block than I would bet that one of them is burnt up. Pretty common for Saturn. If you remove the block connectors, There are two and they are bolted to the backside of the fuseblock, and inspect the pins and wiring you will probably find a burnt pin and terminal. The fuseblock is usually replaced and a block connector repair kit is installed. Both use to be available from saturn, they may still be available through GM. You may have to get one from a salvage yard.

This might be a silly question, my Chevrolet Camaro doesn't seem to have a block heater. Does it come with one? Is it something that I will need to add?

No you have to order it

Most people buy of the dealer inventory

I only order from the factory so I get what I want

Only need in Alaska or Northern Canada if you

The heat/defrost won't work

This can be caused by a stuck blend door or a clogged heater core. Can you hear the blend door moving when you turn the temp knob? If not, it may have disconnected from the control panel or blend door. If the door works, remove the heater core and flush it or replace it.

I have a saturn sl2 and one of the pisten shot through the block. could i get any other year saturn to replace the engine?

the 1.9 was used throughout the entire run of the sc2 and sl 2 vehicles from the early 90s through early 2000s. Some sensors and accessories may be different but the long block is the same.
