1999 4Runner with RPM and Drive problems

My 4Runner has issues.  When I try to accelerate the only thing that moves quickly is the RPM gage.  I cannot go up a hill without having to floor it pushing the rpms to 6.  Yesterday I tried to begin driving up a hill and when I put it in drive it wouldn't was as if it was in nuetral.  I put it in L and still no movement, only a revving of the engine...Finally in 2 it moved up the hill.  Any suggestions?

Your trans either has a very low fluid level or the clutch pack in your transmission has failed, check the fluid and see if the fluid is burnt (should be clean and red) or low, if it is burnt that pretty much mreans you need to have the trans repaired.

I suggest that you check to see if you have any transmission fluid in it or see if it si burnt. I ther is fluid then you will have to take it to a transmission shop and get an estimate to fix this problem. I am assuming that this vehicle is an automatic. If it has a clutch then you need to replace the clutch, throw out bearing and pressure plate. This will fix your problem.

No power when pulling up hill will not rev over 3000 rpm

This only happens when going up hill? What about other times what happens when you try and accelerate all the way? How many miles are on the vehicle? There is a few things that could cause this. Once I have more information I can assist you further.

Car accelerates when air conditioning is on

100% normal
most cars raise idle RPM by 200 RPM
100% normal if it was 200.
only at idle. not moving ,ever.

my guess the accelerates means moving. some will use that word for RPM only.
why would any car do that.
1: ECU?PCM thinks the car is idling
bad TPS sensor or not calibrated.

2: on fly by wire (throttle by wire) the CEL Glows, running, is it> and if yes, why on scan the errors
TBW , has lots of issues, did you read all TSBs on the car, most cars
TBW cars, the TSBs bleed red with issues.
TBW means Throttle by Wire, TSB are trouble bulletins.

when a TBW car has problems, it can go to limphome.
limphome causes out of control idle. and lost engine power
many cars , kill the A.C in limphome. so as not to overheat the engine
or give you more power ,now that 1/2 was lost in limphome.
(passing safety is an issue here)\

so back up

does car dash CEL lamp glow , running engine.and for sure driving
if yes, do not drive car, scan the PCM and find what is wrong.
all cars, 1988 to now. (USA cars have OBD tech)

2012 M37X intermittant failure to accelerate from stop, must put car in neutral and then D for vehicle to move.

How is it you have the issues & the dealer never drives it,
to experience the same thing you are?

They are jerking you & don't care to resolve

Either leave it there, try a different dealer or have the
factory rep come & work on it

Missing in drive 2400-2700 rpm

First--- you shouldn't be driving it or trying different things,
unless causing damage, is your thing

Common sense says, if you don't understand the product
in terms of diagnosing issues yourself, you need a repair
shop to do so

There are at least 10 things in some combination, that
could cause your issues. We can not guess at them in
a way that would help you at all

It simple has to be test driven & diagnosed buy people
experienced to do so

1993 Chevy Cavalier 2.2l engine auto trans. While driving up hills, sounds like torque convertor is locking/unlocking too often. Condition is only noticed as a slight increase/decrease of engine rpm...

try unplugging the torque lock solenoid on the front of the transmission, the RPMs will be a little higher and you will lose a little bit of fuel mileage but it should solve the issue until you can get the solenoid replaced

My clutch is slipping so in first gear I have no acceleration and then after flooring it a bit I finally get going its 1996 saab 900s is that a clutch cable or a clutch itself

you need a new clutch, try this, apply the brake,, and try moving the car , normally when increasing the rpm's a motor (and good clutch) will win out every time, if you can raise the rpm's and it still stalls out you have other issues, But My bet would be you need a clutch replacement
