Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima
MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON... SOMETIMES ITS ON AND SOMETIMES IT TURNS OFF... USUALLY IF I TAKE THE BETTERY OUT AND PUT IT BACK IN THE LIGHT TURNS OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN COMES RIGHT BACK ON... HAD THE HAND MACHINE PUT ON IT AND THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHY IT KEEPS COMING ON AND THEY CANT FIND ANYTHING...
2000 Maxima's were notorious for having problems with the ignition coils (one on each plug wire) going bad one at a time. The engine will ok but will kick a fault light after just one missfire. Nissans way of fixing this problem is to replace ALL coils at once for $800. This may be your problem. Hint: The front and back coils are different and are easy to replace yourself.

You must put the computer on it when the light is lit. other wise it will show no fault. If that does not work I suggest you check every plug that goes to an electronic part under the hood. One of these plugs may be rattling or loose.Just unplug and re-plug all the units you can find. Make sure you do this with the car off.
