Just bought the car today and it ran good but when I got it home and had it idiling for about 20 minuits a 12 inch circle of oil on groud by exhaust, and entire yard and neighbors filled with grayish/white smelly smoke. Have I been had. Just gave a thousand for this car. I'm poor and about to cry...

Almost sound like the problem is a head gasket. Is the oil a milky color? if so that is water in the oil and you have blown a head gasket.

SOURCE: white smoke coming from exhaust when accelerating

This is usually an indication of a bad head gasket.I gasket. The white smoke is the coolant leaking out of the engine and winding up in the oil passages, due to a bad head gasket. To confirm this,
1. check oil. Is level increased, or milky appearance?
2. Is coolant level dropping, but u don't see any signs of leaks?
The above indicates a bad head gasket, causing the white smoke u describe. Let me know how u make out.

It could be the intake gaskets or even still the head gasket. How about the coolant ? Did you refill with same type coolant ? Have you noticed if it's thick and gooey ? mixing coolants will sometimes produce a thick gooey coolant that clogs up the cooling system. If the car ran hot it could also be a cracked head or block. Warped heads also. Somehow the coolant seems to be getting into the cylinder(s).

SOURCE: Intermittent white smoke out exhaust and engine misfire

The piston rings in your engine might be needed to be replaced already... go to a local shop with a compression tester.. have your engine tested for compression leaks.. if it does have compression leaks.. then you need to change piston rings. Note** white smokes = engine is burning oil..

hardly likely the exhaust job would cause that, but yes it sounds like you got a blown head gasket. badl lock stricks hmm! also preasure test cylinder head for leaks

Remove righthand engine mount bracket. 9. Remove bolts from front cover. 10. Carefully remove front cover by carefully prying at seven indicated points, Fig. 1. 11. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise to place No. 1 position at TDC on exhaust stroke by aligning dimple on crankshaft with block/bearing junction, Fig. 2. Lefthand side cam phaser arrows should point toward each other and be parallel to valve cover sealing surface. 12. Mark rotation direction of following timing chains for reference during installation: a. Lefthand side cam chain. b. Righthand side cam chain. c. Oil pump chain. d. Primary chain. 13. Reset righthand cam chain tensioner by pushing back tensioner piston and installing tensioner pin tool No. 8514, or equivalent. 14. Reset lefthand cam chain tensioner by lifting pawl, pushing back piston and installing tensioner pin tool No. 8514, or equivalent. 15. Disengage oil pump chain tensioner spring from dowel pin, then remove oil pump chain tensioner. 16. Remove oil pump sprocket T45 retaining bolt, then remove oil pump sprocket and oil pump chain. 17. Install righthand camshaft phaser lock tool No. 10202, or equivalent. Minor rotation may be required to install camshaft phaser lock. 18. Loosen both intake oil control valves, then exhaust oil control valve. 19. Remove righthand camshaft phaser lock tool, then oil control valve from righthand side intake cam phaser. 20. Pull righthand side intake cam phaser off of camshaft, then remove righthand side cam chain. 21. Remove oil control valve, then pull righthand side exhaust cam phaser off camshaft. 22. Install lefthand camshaft phaser lock tool No. 10202, or equivalent. Minor rotation may be required to install camshaft phaser lock. 23. Loosen both intake oil control valve and exhaust oil control valve. 24. Remove lefthand camshaft phaser lock tool, then oil control valve from lefthand side exhaust cam phaser. 25. Just bought this 2nd had and drove it home and smells of burning oil. also notice that there was wet oil under the exhaust. It's a Daewoo Tacuma 2004

probly need new head or valvegasket-pop hood and inspec motor to trace oil leak always chec out auto before purchase-20 min is worthwhile

The starter is not getting enough amps,and the starter is groaning and clicking ,and so,on,if you replace the battery,be sure to plug a 12 volt power source into the cig,lighter,to keep the memory to the computer.But have the battery checked,it is most likely the problem,and the terminals to the battery need to be cleaned ,real good,shiny.

I just bought a 96 dodge caravan 2 days ago ive drove 150 miles today and when i went to shut it off it had smoke i raised the hood its coming almost directly from the front of the van i went to leave...

How low was the oil? It could be something as simple as some oil is leaking out of the valve covers and once it hits the exhaust manifold then it starts smoking. Usually smoke coming from the engine compartment is a result of that. Look and see if it leaks any oil while you have it parked in pavement for a while in case it has something to do with the oil change.
