My girlfriend has had an orange engine management light come on in the past hour. is there a fluid some one can point me towards that needs filling or is it a trip to my local dealer?

no, it's not the transmission. No monitors for that. It sounds like your check engine light. When your engine computer detects a problem with it's engine management controls, or when an emissions problem is detected, the computer will turn your check engine light and store a code or codes describing the problem. Autozone will scan your codes for free. Then you'll know if the light means a major problem (fix right away) or a minor problem that needs attention. When it's fixed, the light will stay off. You won't know what that light means until you get the codes read. Good luck.
Under the hood you should find 2 plastic tanks. One will have a drawing of what look like a windshield wiper on it and is full of blue or green fluid, that's for your sprayers. The tank you need should be toward the grille, and should be marked "engine coolant only". Look to see what color it is as some of the newer Chevy's use orange instead of green and youcannot mix the two. On the side of the tank it will have a fill line for cold and a fill line for hot. It's best to check it cold. If the tank is low, you can go a little past the full line. Drive the truck for 20 minutes and check again after about an hour cool down to see if it needs more.

Is the car running hot? Check and top off coolant (Radiator fluid) but do NOT open radiator cap if the engine has run in the past hour. Most times you top off the fluid by filling seperate reservoir

here is what you do next: Pull plug #1, ground coil output, place finger over plug hole and turn the engine over until compression stroke can be detected (air rushing past your finger) then observe the timing marks on cranskshaft. this may take a few times until you are sure that you are on compression stroke and near top dead center of #1. Then install the dist pointing towards #1 plug position of the dist cap...

It is very likely you have a stuck float inside the coolant resevoir tank. This is very, very common. First verify that you are indeed low on coolant. If not, remove the tank, fill half way with warm water and drip in a few drops of dish soap. With the cap on and covering both openings, shake it like you're a mad man. Rinse it out then shake it and listen for a rattling noise. If you dont hear anything, time to replace the tank. The float is integrated into the tank.
Do you have a 'Check Engine" light? Did you check engine oil level & Trans fluid level & condition? If no check engine light and all powertrain fluid levels are good and clean, this drivability problem is pointing more and more to a restriction in the exhaust system (clogged catalytic converter(s). Normally, a clogged CAT will give you check engine light.... but there have been many cases where it doesn't. Diagnostic procedures recommend you use a OBDII scanner and monitor O2 sensor activity (both upstream and downstream) while performing a "Stall Test". Recommend you have this problem diagnosed at a Hyundai Service Center to CONFIRM/VERIFY this suspicion. Otherwise, it could be any number of Engine Management System problems (MAF, MAP, TPS, ECM, ETC, IAT, Intake Air Hose, Vacuum Leaks, etc.).
