Question about 1995 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Hard start 1995 Cherokee TD limited. Drove it 500 miles after buying no problem and then next it wouldn't start. No smoke from exhaust and flattened the battery trying to start it. The seller told me he sometimes had problems and that parking on a slope helped - unfortunately I parked on the flat.... could it be the fuel filter?

Yes it is possible that the fuel filter is blocked, and should be replaced first as it is the easiest and least expensive. Also you want to check to make sure that the fuel pump is functioning. to do this have someone kneel down by the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank. Turn the ignition to the run position. (do not start). The other person will be listening for a whirring sound that should last a few seconds. That will be the fuel pump priming the system. If the pump can not be heard it needs to be replaced. And of course recharge your battery.

It sounds like it has jumped time. What year is the car and how many miles. Timing chains can go bad as early as 70,000 miles

1997 dodge 2500 ram4/4....71,000 miles. Run fine without slide in camper on it. Put camper on it and it run fine until it's gone maybe even as little as 40 miles then starts to loose power and bla

Has the exhaust ( catalytic converter) been check for proper flow? I would try a test pipe to by-pass converter and see if that helps. You used to be able to buy them, but a good exhaust shop can make one pretty quick, and then try it.

1995 toyota tacoma made a noise when i started it and is now pouring smoke from the exhaust.

Smoke pouring from the exhaust means that there is oil getting into the combustion chamber and is being partially burnt. Overheating engine means something is making the engine work extra hard. I suspect a broken ring Probably an oil ring. Pull the plugs and look for an oily plug and you will know which cylinder has the problem

95 jeep grand cherokee limited straight 6. Just replaced the radiator and when i drove around town it started to run really rough. Got home and popped the hood and there was smoke coming from the drivers...

Obviously you did not replace the radiator because it looked like fun so I imagine you had a previous overheating problem. First, drain that oil and check to see if it has coolant in it. Next, re-fill oil if it wasn't contaminated and run it and find out where the smoke was coming from. Running rough and oil overfull sounds like a blown cylinder head gasket. Testing will reveal what's going on there. Hopefully if it is a gasket, running like that has not damaged the crank bearings.
Need any more info on what you find, just ask.

It's probably one of these:

1.NSS- (Neutral Safety Switch)
2.CPS- (Crankshaft Position Sensor)

1995 cherokee 2.5 td 150k miles will not start.

The oil pressure dropping to zero is common for cherokees. Replace the oil pressure sending unit and it will be good as new. Cracked exhaust manifolds are also common. Usually it will crack where the 2 pipes are welded into 1 pipe before it connects to the front pipe. There are lots of replacement headers out there to choose from. I just ordered one through quadratec.
