98 Honda Passport check engine light on. Need to drive home..

My check engine light just came on, and am at college in a small town with an unreliable automotive shop. I have a 4 hour drive in a week to get home, and want to take it to my automotive shop at home. Will it be safe to drive home? Car is running fine now. Thanks

You should be able to take it to any chain auto parts shop and get a free engine scan. Heck, even your unreliable little shop should be able to hook up a hand scanner for free or nearly so (def not more than $5).

I'm betting you'll get a P0401 Code - EGR Flow Insufficient. That's a common problem for the 3.2 Honda/Isuzu engines. If that's the case DO NOT blow $200 on a new valve. A $10 gasket and a $4 can of air intake cleaner are all you need.

Even if it's not the 401, the check engine light is typically not a HUGE concern as long as the rest of your gauges are within usual limits and the vehicle operates normally. You're usually good to go until you can get to a reliable mechanic. Just don't put it off too long - that's when the serious problems develop.

You might check your gas cap and make sure it is tight. My friends civic will turn on the check engine light when it's not on right. Also your Catalytic converter on your exhaust will cause it to light up if it is getting clogged.

You might just need an oil change if it still runs just fine..and when you get and oil change they will reset your computer..

Fuel light on a 98 honda passport flashes

These Isuzu-built vehicles had many problems with fuel system components. Particularly the sending unit in the tank. Note: If the unit is replaced, the PCM must be updated to accept the new pump calibration before it will work.

98 Honda passport. Just died while driving

first things first ,have you got fuel in it ,did any warning lights come on like the battery light and if so check if your fanbelt has not come off or the alternator is not charging the battery and it died because the battery is flat.the other thing is to see if your fuel lines are not blocked, fuel filter and if your getting fuel to the engine if not it might be fuel pump. There can be many issues related to your problem.

Honda passport trans light flashing

Most likely you have a bad transmission pressure solenoid. You weren't too specific so here's what to look for: The engine light, the trans light and the shifiting, if when you drive on a level surface the suv seems to shift late and very rough...that is probably what it is. It's a few hundred to have fixed because they have to pull the casing off the trans and they'll want to replace the fluid and filter too. good luck.

Fanbelt diagram for 98 honda passport

Check carefully under the hood. There should be a sticker under the hood in the engine compartment with a diagram of the belt routing. If you can't find it, check your owners manual (if u still have it), if all this fails, ask where u purchased the new belt, they would have access to that info. Good luck!
