no description of timing marks, or diagrams shown in the service manuals for my '91 stylus with 1.6 liter SOHC engine, and I need to completely reset my timing due to broken timing belt

- I have an 89' CRX with 1.6L SOHC and the timing belt has lost teeth- thus it is essentially broken and needs to be replaced. When it actually died it was at idle, so I do not think that the cam moved much afterwards. None of the valves are even remotely close to being all the way open, so I think I avoided the problem of bent valves that is associated with broken timing belts on interference engines. How do I reset the timing without bending the valves? If I set the pistons to TDC then I will surely bend valves when resetting the cam to TDC. I think that this will also occur if I try setting it in the reverse order of what I just described. Help!!! - enespeeJan 19, 2009
