I have a 2002 ford Escape with a V6. when i start the engine it races up to 4000 RPM's after it runs about a minute it will slow down to around 2500 to 3000. what might cause this?

regarding the RPM's like you mentioned only has 3 culprits.

1. Ford has been known to have a very faulty TPS sensors ( Throttle Position sensor) you might wanna replace it, it's very simple and msrp should be from $10-$15

2. if equiped you might also have a faulty MAF air sensor, have this checked out.

3. least likely but in the intake hose/tube you might have a Vacum leak. check all of the lines and make sure they are snug and very tight.

i hope i helped.

How do I replace the map sensor on 2006 Jeep commander

if it has one, at all, (and not mAF)
you unbolt it.
if it has hose that too comes off (if not a direct intake mounted type.
it will have a 3 pin connector and will need to come off first
all conn. on cars have locks do not force them,
no engine option stated, so no real list of exact steps. possible

the engine line up is.

  1. 3.0 L OM642 V6 (turbocharged diesel)
  2. 3.7 L PowerTech V6 (gasoline)
  3. 4.7 L PowerTech V8 (gasoline / E85)
  4. 5.7 L Hemi V8 (gasoline) (may have a MAF?)

so what engine?, its an engine question and fist just is to know what is there....

I have a 96 ford explorer v6 with a pushrod motor and after we replaced the pushrods, the head gaskets, the valve cover gaskets and the fuses, the car will not idle. what could be the problem?

Have you adjusted the pushrods properly? Pushrods generally need to be adjusted after installation.

Not sure how to do this on this model, although I own a 94 Ford Explorer with the V6 4.0 Liter motor.

Basically, when a gas engine doesn't run, you check 4 things, and narrow it down from there.

1. Gas (Is gas pressure good, is gas flow strong enough?)
2. Spark (are all spark plugs firing properly? Is spark strong enough)
3. Combustion at each cylinder (timing, pushrod adjustment)
4. Air Flow (MAF/MAP sensor working? Air Filter dirty?)

MAP or MAF Sensor Diagram for 2005 Town&Country Touring Van 3.8l.

Yes it has a sensor and they are color coded however I don't think it's called a maf or map sensor that’s a GM name, there would be three wires on it on ground one 5 volts reference and one for connection to the computer to tell the computer how much air flow there is, and the reading would be from 1.5 volts to 4 volts.

2002 ford mustang gt map sensor enhancer connection? (for HHO)

MAP enhancers usually wont do the trick for long - the computer will learn the adjustment to the MAF and overide within a day or so usually less than a few minutes.

The computer is best altered using an EFIE to adjust the O2 sensor(s), usually adding between .2 and .3 volts to the O2 sensor signals does the trick - each combo of the HHO and car is slightly different - you have to play with it to find your best setting. You only need to alter the signal on the O2 sensors ahead of the cats as they are the ones the computer uses to adjust the fuel.
