Transmission was rebuilt by previous vehicle owner. Clean & dry, usually shifts very well but on two occasions it has experienced not so much of a slipping, but more of a disengagement. After cycling through the gears a few times, it has responded like normal. Thought it might be a linkage issue, but my mechanic found nothing. Not burning fluid, and not low. Ideas?

It's a little confusing by the text do you have a automatic trans or a standard trans ?

if it's a automatic when it was rebuilt was the torque converter replaced and how longs it been since filter and fluid has been rreplaced
do you tow with it (heavy or lite)

the reason I ask all these questions is it could be the same thing that happened to me two years ago trans was rebuilt but not the converter and I tow with it On a long trip the converter went and sent metal all thru rebuilt trans totally destroying it all ford now puts a filter on cooler lines to keep this failure from destroying entire trans. cost me 3 grand in another state far from home with a horse trailer loaded with horses all in all that trip cost me about 8 grand included horse boarding and motel costs
