I have a 1995 Accord, it starts fine. When you let the key go, it turns off. My brother noticed that if you push the key in a little and then turn it there is a "click". If you hear the click it will stay started. Without the click the car will just turn off. I could sit in the car and hold the key and it will stay running.
Its as if the key will not hold its position.

hi from uk from what you say the symptoms on starting problem this would indicate that your ignition system is ballast resistance ie the ign is running on 8 or 9 volts when engine running but to assist initial start ups the ignition boosts to 12 volts when you turn key to start position ok so far?? soas you say the engine appears to start/run on the key start/12v boost but when you release from key start engine stops? so the ballast 8-or9 volt ign circuit is not there to continue running engine ok ?? now not sure which system of ballast resistor ign your car has but it is either ballast resistor coil or a seperate ballast block on the low tension wiring on route to the distributor? look on the inner wings close to distributor location and follow wire from dissy back to coil hope this helps?

Honda Accord dash lights don't turn on starts momentarily then turns off

That is either a sensor or an alarm system acting up. Not a Honda guy but on others thats what can cause that. If the key has a rfid chip its the alarm and you may need a new key from the stealer. what happens in that case is the car doesn't detect an authourised key and thinks it is being stolen and shuts off after a half second of running.

Hello. i have the ff. problems with my 1994 honda accord manual: 1. the engine dash "orange" light on and cant find solution from local mechanics: 2. engine rpm is 1300 when starts and 800 rpm...

first engine light is on a reason it has a code stored needs to be read,2.sounds like it needs throttle body cleaning,and3.if clutch is hard means master clutch cyl is bad if hydraulic and if manual cable is worn.

My 1995 honda accord, dash light stop working, tail lights and brake lights all at the same time. what is the problem and how hard is it to replace the part.

I'm having the same problem on my 1995 Honda Accord.  I hit a bump hard last night, and my dash lights, tail-lights, license-plate lights, and the bell which 'bing's when the door is open and the headlights are on all stopped working.  The fuse for "Small lights" under the hood was blown.  Replaced it, turned on headlights, and it blew again instantly.
I'm guessing that I have a wire crossed (possibly inside the bulb itself) in the dash somewhere;  I checked the taillights and license-plate liights already.

Good luck!  I'll let you know how my fix goes.

My car wont stay running

Does the engine die as soon as you release the key, or does it run for a couple of seconds after you release the key and then die? If it dies as soon as you release the key, try holding the key for a few seconds and see if it will stay running as long as you are holding the key (the starter will make a grinding sound while holding the key but won't hurt anything). If it stays running while you hold the key then dies when you release it, that indicates that the ignition switch is bad.
