The starter will be at the rear of the engine. Disconnect all of the cables, remove the 3 or 4 bolts that hold it in. Pull it straight out of the engine. Install the new starter. Starters are fairly straightforward, but sometimes awkward to reach.

I took it to a familiy friend that works on car for a living and we found out that it is the key switch that went out and will cost about $120 to get fixed

2001 Jimmy had fuel pump problems. Replaced fuel pump with after market and fired right up. Week later I stop run into house, then back out completely dead at the key. Replace starter, fires right

I'm a little lost here, but if it will start on starting fluid, the ignition system is working.
Most V-6 GM trucks take at least 65psi of fuel pressure to start. Most aftermarket pumps don't do the job.
I would check the fuel pressure with a gauge next.

Is a 94 gmc seirra tranny the same as a 97 gmc

if they are both a 700 r4 tranny then yes they are the same.. Most had that tranny so I can pretty much say they are the same especially with overdrive.

The starter is locked up on my 94 jimmy gmc. how do i fix it? it is a brand new starter.

sometimes just by banging it with a hammer itwhile startuing it may unlock, but usually a locked starter means that you need to shim the starter so that it turns evenly to the flywheel
