Misfiring bad wont run. all cylinders. Wires, plugs, cap, rotor, distributor and all parts inside dist. only thing left is the spark whatever module on intake manifold ?
Sounds like your map sensor is fauty .
6 or 8 cyl ? Were you driving down the road when it happened ?
Usually the ignition module is inside the dist and that fires the coil. The coil is either in the cap or mounted on the intake manifold.
If the truck has over 100,000 miles the timing chain could be off. A timing light would tell you.

I investigated this for over an hour while tossing things around in my head and truly think that you need to have your O2 censor checked along with your converter. One probable cause to your misfire could very well stem from your catalytic converter due to an O2 faulty etc.etc. Why not try a smog shop before tearing that engine apart any further and replacing any unnecessary gaskets. Thats a tight engine in my opinion and unless you really mistreat it, I would bet on it at race day. Have you recently been in a fender bender? Let us know cause that might change my advice.
