I smell ocassionaly a burnt toast smell while running the heater, not all the time, but just sometimes. I checked for coolant leaks and found none.

This is caused by in most cases dry tree leaf getting particles into the heating duct through the air intake at the base of the windshield, this material contacts the red hot blower motor speed control resistor and burns, and yes it smells like burnt toast, in order to clean this stuff out u need to remove the blower motor, the material will be in the duct near it. I have seen this cause a fire, so get it checked and cleaned ASAP.

My trans wont go in any gear and smells like its burning it smokes to.makes a weird whining noise when started

Doesnt sound good. Check your transmission fluid. If it is dark instead of pink or red, it is burnt. It will also smell burnt if you smell it. if its burnt the trans is probably toast. The only thing you can do is service the transmission by changing the filter and all of the fluid and see how it goes. Im not saying that this will work but this is the only thing you can do before officially pronouncing it DOA. Sorry..

I am not having a problem with the car, however I do have 66,457 miles on the car. my husband says it is time for atransmission flush, is this correct? My car is a 2006 RAV4 Limited

not necessarily, pull dipstick for trans out,is the fluid looking clean as a red color ? If it looks brown then maybe you should, Smell the fluid also ,does it smell clean or does it smell a little burnt like toast? if it smells burnt then you should flush and replace. I'm sure he is just trying to maintain the vehicle the best he knows how.

The transmission fluids smelled burnt and look very brown and thick

You can try and have the fluid and filter changed, but if the smell and discolor comes back, it's time to have the tranny rebuilt or replaced.

Reverse light on on the dash and shifts hard when i put in reverse. Check engine lights on also trac off light is on.

sounds like you have burnt tranny fluid and if the fluid is burnt so is the tranny and it is soon to give up
pull dip stick out of tranny and smell if it smells like burnt toast it means the trans is on it's way to the recyclers

TRANSMISSON PROBLEMS

if its manual sounds like your clutch could be slipping does car smell of burt clutch?
check cluth adjustment
may need new clutch
do stall test with hand brake on, foot (heel-toe) on brake and accel pedal to about 2000rpm then let out clutch and car should stall if engine revs go down and engine still runs but you can rev causing slip and you will now smell what slipping burnt clutch is replace it.

if its auto check trans oil level and what does it look like red-good
darker red to black-bad often smells burnt also possibly new trans required.
