If this is the pull out switch, your problem is getting the knob off, I'm guessing.  Get out the new switch and note the small push button on the side...it is generally metal and about 1/8 inch in diameter or so.  That push button will release the knob shaft.  After that, unscrew the bezel, unplug the switch and remove.  The shaft will lock when pushed into the new switch.

Lots of power, dash lights up but no ignition power to starter, relay changed, neutral start switch changed, fuses good.

Well, looking at the schematic, there is the IGN A (Fuse 6) in the under-hood fuse block feeding power to both the ignition switch and to the NO contact of the starter relay. Turning the ignition switch to the START position sends this voltage thru the CRANK (Fuse 8) in the instrument panel fuse block and thru the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch, thru the starter relay coil to ground. This should activate the Starter relay and pass voltage to the starter solenoid to ground, activating it. One the starter solenoid activates, batter power is sent to the starter motor, activating it. If, as you say, the fuses are good, the starter relay was replaced and is good, and the Park/Neutral position switch was replaced and is good, then then only items left are the ignition switch itself, the starter solenoid/motor, or the wiring of the circuit.

The dash board light is on when it should be off, then off when it should be on...

Check to make sure you dimmer switch is working properly... Also if you have DRL (daytime running lights), that would explain the on when not supposed to be condition.

My gmc envoy xl 2004 wont start and before this it would cut out like it was running out of gas but always had gas also the dash board light will start flashing like crazy on there own

The first thing I would suspect is the ignition switch, these have been known to cause all kinds of problems when they go bad. If you are handy, it can be replaced by a DIYer. Go to www.trailvoy.com and do a search on ignition switch replacement, for instructions on how to do it.

My dash board lights just went off.what must be happening

It could be something very simple. You may have bumped the dash board light dimmer switch. It is a small slider switch directly above the rear fog light switch which is directly above the headlight switch. This slide switch will adjust the brightness of your dash board lights or shut them off. If you didn't bump this switch, then this switch may just be bad and need replacing. If everything else works, then it is probably the switch.

No dash board lights at night

Check the dash fuse, and if that fuse is fine, then it is your dimmer switch that is bad.

Remove bulb, make sure it sits tight in the socket. make sure socket is not burnt up (brown or black in color) Check bulb, if the filament inside is loose or discolored, replace as nesessary. Check brake light switch under driver side dash above brake pedal. make sure it is adjusted correctly.

I have a 2002 Yukon XL. The dash board sometimes does not light up at night.

Check fuse for tail and parking lights Could be a bad dimming rheostat Could be a bad headlight switch

OR
theres a switch at the brake lever(bad) or the bulb is out

OR
Look at the fuse panel and if you have a manual that will tellyou the tail light fuse then check it. If not then pull them one at a time and replace any you find that are bad. If none turn out bad then there is a relay in some models after the fuse. It should be mounted under the steering wheel dash area.
