Volvo 2.4t 2001 wont start although sparks present

My car wont start although there are sparks present when I crank the engine to start up. What do I have to do or check out next? (I've checked the fuel pump) Where do I look for the relay if it is faulty?
I tried to fixed the cooling fan as well but was unable to find the relay or the sensor/regulator. Are these problems related? Are they any wiring diagram of the relay available? If so, how can I get a copy?
Can anyone help?
Thank in advance.

Thanks rachel & dave1953. I tried rachel's suggestion and can confirm the car has decent fuel pressure. What's next? At the moment the car is in my home garage but I can not get it out to a services garage. No machanics do a house call in my area. I kind of stuck and stuff.

Prior to the car won't start, while I was trying to get the cooling fan going, I think I may have bumped on to and loose the starter regulator (I don't know if it is or not the starter regulator - it has 'fam4' written on it). Any idea and suggestion for me to do or try next?

    Much apprecited further helps.

This car is fuel injected so find the fuel rail look for the schrader valve witch looks just like a valve stem on your tire except its molded in the rail and has no rubber.you need 2 people to try this but find somthing to press the inside the valve and have a rag over every thing then have some one turn the key all the way forward but not starting. while the valve is being pressed make sure the rag is covering everything enough to keep gas from spraying you possibly in the face.so during this procedure once the key is turned foward gas should come out with decent pressure for about 2 to 3 seconds on some models it will come out nonstop so pay attention.if you do get gas pressure then the main fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and fuel flow can be knocked out of the possibility list.this is just a common problem to just start with.post again with resultes and new questions.

We bought a 03 chevy venture have had it two weeks an it wont start......we put new fuel pump in it. Drove it around it was fine went to store it wont start....i am wheelchair bound could use help

There are numerous reasons for a vehicle not to start. You need to determine if the engine is getting fuel and spark. If one or the other is not present, there will be a no start. Remove a spark plug wire and ground it to the engine. Crank engine over and you should see a spark coming from the boot to the engine. If no spark present, possible crank sensor/ignition module/wiring/computer problem. If spark present, suspect fuel delivery problem. Fuel pump/relay/injector problem/wiring/computer. There can be a considerable amount of diagnostics needed to isolate the problem and correct it.

My 94 mazda protege will crank but wont start. I replaced rotor and cap. Battery. Air sensor. When i try to turn over a thud comes fron the air sensor. Help please!!

If it won't start, have you checked for spark and fuel pressure? Remove one plug wire and ground it over the engine. Crank the engine and see if there is spark. IF spark is present, check fuel pressure to see if the pump is working. If spark and fuel are present, check for cracked air hose from air filter housing to throttle assembly allowing unmetered air into the engine. Also check for timing belt issues

We had to replace the powersteering pump and serpentine belt on 01 volvo s80. The timing belt is a lil warn but funtional and timing is set. The car will still not start. What else should we check.

Changing a belt and pump should not cause a no start situation unless there was something unplugged/disconnected during install that wasn't hooked back up. You need to determine whether there is spark and fuel present. Remove a spark plug wire/coil and crank engine. You should see/hear a spark from the coil/plugwire if spark ok. You then must check for fuel pressure from the test port on the fuel rail ( if equipped ) to determine fuel supply. Diagnostics will then have to be conducted on what is missing

Coolant drained somewhere now car wont start

Remove the spark plugs and crank the engine. Look for coolant to come out of spark plug holes. If the leak isn't visible anywhere else it is possible it leaked pass the head gasket and into the cylinders hydro locking the engine and not allowing it to crank.

1994 volvo 850 wont start

Well if the engine is turning over while trying to start but won't, going to have to start with the basics. If the engine light is on when she does run check for codes and see what they are and repost or have someone look at it with a scan tool at a garage. If no codes are present or none that are relavent then Start by checking the spark to the plugs with a spark tester, the adjustable gap kind are best but inline would be ok. if you got spark, check for fuel while cranking of course, (you could smell it out the tail pipe), or remove plugs and see a small spray coming out as the engine is cranking (be careful with this as these are not appropriate tests and you are dealing with fuel, explosive and dangerous to breathe). Don't crank too much as this can wash the cylinders down. if the cylinders get washed down you will need to put some oil in each cylinder just a little, to rebuild compression. If fuel is present in the cylinders while cranking, and you say you have good fuel pressure then will need to ensure compression and timing, and if all these are good, you will have to check for problems with wiring and electronically controlled grounds, etc. You may want to seek some help on these if you are unsure how to continue on with voltage drop tests, and resistance, but maybe you can. I hope this helps and if you have anymore info on the vehicle like test values etc, or need more help, just post back. good luck

2001 Will crank but wont start

Hi , these trucks are notorious for fuel pump issuse. (I have 2 in the shop now).First check for spark if spark is present then we need to check for fuel.if a presure gauge is avail, install the gauge and crank the engine.if presure increases to 50-60 psi fuek is probably not the issue. now if a gauge is not avail you can remove the air cleaner/snorkle assy.spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body, then try to start if (if it starts for a second the problem if fuel.now if it starts go under by the fuel tank, reach up (from the drivers side and unplug the fuel pump plug (4 wire) have some one crank the engine ande check for battery power on gray wire durring cranking,if battery power is present check black wire for good ground.if both power and grounds are present pump is no good.if now power then swap the fuel pump relay w/ same design relay (in the underhood relay center) relays are also a known issue w. the s and t trucks, good luck Thanks

2001 Volvo s40/ takes 5-10 seconds to start.

fuel filter is at right side of gas tank undernieth car
by pumping the gas all you are doing is opening the throttle plates alowing some air.its not uncomin for injection cars with higher mileage to need alittle more air for start up.
check ECT sensor.
clean throttle plates
is check engine light on?
