1995 GMC Transmision slipping

I have a 95 GMC Seirra 4x4 that has a crate tranny with only 8000 miles on it. The warranty has expired due to it was only 3 years. I do not drive the truck very often, or abuse in the least, and do not even have a tow hitch. Heres my problem. The tranny started to slip a little going into 3rd. Problem got worse during a 10 mile drive or so. I checked fluid, it was low about a quart and a half. Figured that would solve problem, no. While shifting from 2nd, the truck seems to go into nuetral, if I give the gas a couple of heavy revs at speed, I do grab 3rd, and third holds steady but will not go into over drive. I find it hard to believe that just a quart and half low could do so much damage on a 8000 mile create tranny, but my luck it did. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. John...

I figured out what was wrong. For fyi. My next problem was that my guages failed, speedo, tach, gear position, everything except gas guage. Well, thats not a tranny problem. It turned out to be my main wiring harness that goes from the main port under the steering colomn, to the electical side of the ignition switch. About $180 to replace, and kinda a big pain in the **** too. It turns out that this is a common problem with 93-95 years. I hope that this helps someone else.. John...

Hey john. ya..funny chev trannys. try idling it , selecting every gear, pausing for 2 seconds at each selection. make note of where the fluid is going? make note if it is happening while hot or cold.
Also change the fluid and screen or filter. they do make some metal and that could also be a cause. good luck!

My 1992 ford explorer 4x4 is slipping the third gear HOW MUCH DOES A GEARBOX COST? AND DOES PUTTING A TRANS SEAL OR TRANS FLUID IN HELP?

hi,
just about all the the navajos and explorers have succumbed to what you are explaining here. the engine is good for a many more miles, go to the junkyard and find one that doesent have a tow ball and never towed anything, get the tranny and take it to your mechanic and then you may have your crate back..

Is a 94 gmc seirra tranny the same as a 97 gmc

if they are both a 700 r4 tranny then yes they are the same.. Most had that tranny so I can pretty much say they are the same especially with overdrive.

Depends on what kind of axle you have. Is it a semi-floating axle, or a full-floating type?
