I have 45k on the vehicle and do not drive hard, one rotar on the front is cracked and all 4 pads cracked as well only after 13k miles. this is the second time and it is CPO for 100k and service agreement as well. the pads and rotars on the back look untouched. I put about 50miles a week on it. Any ideas what is happening, the dealer say it is due to heat. I thing 13K there must be another problem. Any help would be great.

I would jack up a front wheel and see if pushing on the pedal with the engine running will stop the wheel from turning. You need to know if the pressure is reaching the wheels, or if the pads and rotors are too slick to stop the car. Usually if the pedal is hard, the booster is not working or the brakes are glazed. Can you stop the car with the parking brake ? That only uses the rear brakes. You may need a second opinion from a different shop.
These parts are brand new from autozone...Front brake rotor=90.00 for 2...rear rotor=60.00 for 2.....brake pads front=30.00/set...brake pads rear = 25.00/set...total = 205.00 parts
so the labor is 337.40....and the parts I looked up are not machined but NEW!!!...maybe you should do the work yourself....337 seems like alot of money....I do brakes for $50.00 labor per axle...especially if you are replacing all the parts...it's not very hard to accomplish...the front rotors easily pop off when you take off the caliper(which has to come off to do the pads) and then the rears are not really too difficult either...My opinion...either do it yourself or get another estimate...maybe there's an out of work backyard maechanic on your street you can give the job to..or if your in the indiana area...call me ...i'd be happy to do the work for ya 2196972613jeffrey
You have to compress the caliper. If your design uses the brake pads as parking break, you need to rotate the piston while compressing it. there are tools that assist with this, but I use a C clamp and the old brake pad.
I just got a 1999 lincoln myself. And the front brakes locked up on it. Try to take off and it spit and sputter's. And floats around when try to stop. I replaced both brake calipers, pads, and one of the rotars. It had grooves wore in it. And changed the rubber hose going to the caliper. That is what the problem actually was. I noticed that the other side had already been changed beforre. But I wasn't sure. The caliper was rusted up where it got hot from rubbing. And it is posible for them to stick. Autozone $38 ea for calipers rebuilt. 40 for the pads. 20 for the rotar. And 35 for the hose. Now it drives like a dream.
Your car has front disc brakes, the disc's are running out of true, as u apply the brake this causes the steering wheel to shake, the higher the speed the more u feel this, the solution is to have the front brake disc's machined true again on a brake lathe or if they are to thin replace them.
The hard part is pressing the caliper piston abck into the caliper so you can get the new, thicker pads over the rotor. A large C Clamp works best.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Pads —Front Disc Brake
Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
Remove the front disc brake caliper bolts. torx bit. T20?
Support the front disc brake caliper from the front strut and spring assembly using mechanics wire.
Remove the front disc brake pads.
Remove the outboard front disc brake pad.
Remove the inboard front disc brake pad.
CAUTION: Make sure the master cylinder reservoir does not overfill and spill brake fluid while retracting the front disc brake caliper piston. NOTE: It is necessary to fully retract the front disc brake caliper piston in the bore before installing the front disc brake pads. Install the front disc brake pads.
Install the inboard front disc brake pad.
Install the outboard front disc brake pad.
Caution. The outer pads are left and right. put left on driver side.
Position the front disc brake caliper on the front-wheel knuckle and install the brake caliper pin bolts.
WARNING: It is necessary to depress the brake pedal several times to position the front disc brake caliper piston before driving the vehicle.
