Actually, if you want, your local Autozone can print you out instructions with pictures, and they don't charge. (At least, they didn't when I worked there)

SOURCE: 1997 rear drums

My suggestion is to go to an auto parts store and buy yourself a copy of the Haynes 1997 F150 half ton pickup manual. Short of that it would be very difficult to explain the step by step procedure. that is why, those of us who have been where you are always do one wheel at a time with the other original wheel our reference.

Abs light staying on

The ABS light comes on when there is a malfuntion in the ABS system, not when the brakes are low. On a Ford you more than likely have a dirty sensor or pick up ring on the back side of the rotor. And no you do not have to change the rear drum brakes when changing your front pads but they should be inspected.
Usually you will change 2-3 sets of front pads before the rears need to be changed.

yes baby it to him and replace both calipers and rotors as they will work better with your new brake pads. Do Not Do a half a job when it comes to brakes. its your family you are dealing with. calipers are cheap rotors are cheaper and pads are also cheap. its 3 hours labour to do a complete front brake job and rear brakes take 2 hours. with new shoes turn drums replace wheel cylinders and new rear brake hardware price in Canadian for front brakes under 400 price for rear under 250 American parts prices slightly different but labour times the same

Did complete brake job on 1997 Ford Escort wagon no abs rear shoes, drums, lines, wheel cylinders, even changed the block at the rear were the lines go in & out of. Front lines hoses pads, caliplers...

is brake pedal hard to push down without engine running ,if so proceed to step two and thats to start engine and then push on brake and if pedal softer to push then the servo is working ,now if excessive pedal travel with engine running then remove the rear drums ,make sure the outside lip is cleaned out and then adjust the brake shoes manually till they rub when you turn the drum ,this will cure it but remember that it has to bed in of course new pads brake disks ,new shoes and drums it has to bed in so give it a chance .

Brake squeal

You, Probably will, Brake Squeal is NOT a new problem.
Disc brake's have been Squealing since, They, became
factory installed on chevrolet in 1971. Before, that they,
were a option. In 72 they even had a bulleton how, to
FIX it. And, no it didn't work.
With That said, Any time you replace Brake pads you,
should always re-surface the Rotors.
Why? First you may start to notice a pulsation as the
pads ware (sometimes! ) The best way to avoid, brake
squeal is to manchine the Rotors put, the blue membrain
sealent on the back side of the pads. And hope that works!!
Some brakes Pads squeal JUST SQUEAL??
You, Could do the same Brake job the same as you did
this one and, they may NOT Squeal.WHY, I WISH I NEW. They
sell all types of STUFF to stop Brake noice DON'T waste your $$.

if your strapped for cash i would suggest doing it yourself as you will not have to pay for labour and all that other BS, not sure on prices on pads but if go to a car parts store they should be able to order specific ones for your car and they arnt hard to change that would be your best bet

Gettin ready to throw new pads on my 86 f250.

If it is a 1986 F250 it has rear drum brakes. Being a 3/4 ton the rear end could be a floater and that makes replacing the shoes a little more difficult.
