Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls low idle speed, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Ive got a Corolla 2006 model,im getting a lot of vibration from the engine while in drive but stationary-like at the red light,my engine RPM is showing about 500 is that to slow can I get the RPM adju

Hello, the idle speed is controlled by the computer, there is no adjustment, what you can do is to clean the inside of the throttle body:

Remove the intake hose from the T/Body, disconnect the battery, use a can of air intake/throttle body cleaner and a brush, open the throttle all the way and clean the carbon out, put the hose back and reconnect the battery, start the engine and keep the rpm up until it clears out, drive it for about 15 minutes, about 90% of the time this fixes low idle.

My Toyota Camry has too low idle speed. At the moment to start my car get around 500 or less revolutions and I got a vibration and the sensation like the car will go off. How can I fix this?

Try cleaning the inside of the throttle body, first disconnect the battery then remove the intake hose, block the throttle plate open and clean the carbon out using a brush and a can of carbon removing spray.

Oil gauge drops low at idle

Low oil pressure at idle can be caused by an engine with worn rod or main bearings due to (usually) high mileage . This however does not mean the engine is still not serviceable as long as the oil pressure is low only at idle. The pressure should at minimum get into the normal range at anything above idle speed. Not much oil pressure is really necessary at LOW speed. At low speed, as long as there is oil getting to the bearings, even at low pressure, you are OK. In a high mileage engine the oil pressure is often low at idle simply because the oil pump is turning slowly and cannot maintain higher pressure between the larger than normal crankshaft and bearing clearances. As speed increases the pump turns faster and supplies more oil and the pressure should go higher. Low pressure as long as it is only at idle is not a problem. However at higher speeds the pressure should be in the normal range. Such a worn engine can benefit from higher viscosity (thicker) oil such as 20W-50 in above freezing weather and 10W-40 in winter. That will increase idle pressure and the thicker oil film maintains a better film between the worn parts

I am getting a code of p0506 from autozone. How can this be fixed?

DTC P0506 refers to the actual engine idle speed not being within range of the commanded engine idle speed. If there are any other DTCs present those must be fixed first.

This can be caused by an ISC (Idle Speed Control) motor sticking.

Other possible causes of this code are:
- incorrect TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) operation
-accessories that require additional engine torque to operate - including amplifiers, security systems, etc. that can cause additional electrical load.
- Restricted exhaust system
-any other mechanical problem that may affect engine speed.

Upon startup engine idles rough then speeds up and returns to normal idle .After a couple of minutes the volt light comes on then no power then a complete shut down.Starts back up for a while then shuts...

OK, the volt light means that the alternator is not charging the battery. It could mean the battery is shorted out, or the battery is bad or low on charge due to an alternator not charging.

Replace the Alternator and battery as indicated by standard voltage output tests under load.

The computer in the car will not operate the engine properly on low voltage.

Fixing the charging system, may resolve the rough idle (meaning that it may be trying to relearn after data was erased by low voltage of the battery), and the speed up.

Try the charging system first, and once that is repaired, reevaluate the engine driveability and speed and idle smoothness, after it relearns.

Good luck on this repair.

I have a 2006 Saturn Ion, the code P0506 was displayed on the code reader with the message Low idle speed. Please help, I don't know what that is, or how I should go about fixing it.

The engine idle speed is controlled by the computer through the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve mounted on the throttle body. The valve may be faulty. Hope this helps and best wishes.
